Robinson Haruhara’s ‘Tis Time for “Torture,” Princess (Hime-Sama “Gōmon” no Jikan desu) is an ongoing manga series that is centered on Hime and her talking sword Ex. They are captured by the Hell-Lord and made to stay as prisoners in the dungeons of Hellhorde. In an attempt to extract information from the princess, they subject her to various forms of torture, but not the usual kind.
The manga was first seen on Shonen Jump+ in the year 2019 and has since continued to be uploaded on the website. Manga Plus also acquired the rights to upload it on its website in October 2019. Since it’s a gag manga, it has no real plot development or deep lore attached to each chapter. It’s more of a slow-paced and wholesome manga.
Due to this nature of repeating the same plot with different themes, the manga has received mixed reviews. Knowing how the story will proceed is boring for some, but it’s also comforting for others. The author of Vinland Saga has publicly expressed his liking for the manga.
‘Tis Time For “Torture,” Princess: The Characters
We are introduced to many characters as the story progresses. Most of the characters are from Hellhorde and try their personalized way of tortures on the Princess. Some try to offer delicious food, play video games or just challenge the Princess in a game.
The tortures are not harmful and, most of the time, just involve showing the Princess Food Wars quality dishes, to which she immediately reveals the secrets. A few characters in the manga are:
Hime:
The strong and resilient Princess was also the head of the 3rd legion of the Imperial Army. No one could match her battle spirit and Strength. Though, After she becomes imprisoned at HellHorde, she falls victim to the various methods of torture performed on her.
She seems to have been brought up in a strict and unemotional environment which causes her to have a soft spot for many things. The Princess, whose name hasn’t been revealed yet, is a kind and compassionate character, just dumb at times which makes it easy for her to be exploited.
Ex:
Ex is the Holy talking sword given to Hime, which also got imprisoned along with the Princess in the dungeon. The sword seems to respect Hime a lot for her Bold and Strong fighting skills. When the tortures are first performed on Hime, Ex believes the princess won’t fall for such absurd tricks, but to his dismay, she ends up failing every time. The sword’s respect for Hime gradually recedes, and he gives up hope of her winning against these tortures.
Torture Tortura:
Tortura is revealed to us in the beginning as a strong and mean-looking female demon. She offers the Princess appealing dishes and snacks, and since Hime never got to experience these back home, she easily offers intel in exchange for those delicacies. Tortura seems to be kind at heart and never really tries to perform harmful torture on Hime.
Hell-Lord:
The Ruler of Hellhorde, Hell-Lord, whose name is revealed to be Go-Chan later on, is the most empathetic and Just king ever. His appearance is scary and mighty, but in reality, he is very down to earth and cares for those who work for him. Even though Hime is a prisoner and sometimes gives useless information, he treats her in an honored way.

His daughter Mao-Mao Chan is also the cutest character in the manga and is loved by everyone, even Hime. Lulune, his wife, and the queen doesn’t appear in the story much and is more of background character. Based on his actions, it looks as though the king wants to gain intel for probable peace negotiations with the humans in the future.
Vanilla Peschutz:
Vanilla is revealed in chapter 37 and is much similar to Hime in many ways. She had no friends and had to only depend on herself for support, just like the princess did. Hime seems to think of Vanilla as a genuine friend in the later chapters.
Yuki and Inki:
These are the Ogre sisters, who are introduced in Chapter 3 as Tortura’s “Leutorments.” They are the first friends the princess makes in Hellhorde after they battle her in a video game. They seem to be very different from each other as Inki is a shy, smart movie lover while Youki is energetic and bold.
This Time For “Torture,” Princess Chapter 161: Recap
In the last chapter, which was released on October 17, w saw Beast Master Krall as the demon assigned to be torturing Hime. To do this, she invites her friend Penjamin (a penguin) over to Hellhorde. The princess expresses her love for penguins and how she has always adored them since she was a kid. Krall later finds out that Penjamin won’t be able to come as the recent heat wave was too much for him.
Disappointed, the Princess lets her know it’s okay and they can do this another day…”Some other day?” Mr. Penjamin says, all sweaty and breathless. The girls are glad to see him, and then the torture begins. However, once it starts, Penjamin becomes very weak and uses an oxygen inhalator and continues with the performance. After it ends, the princess reveals a secret about Penjamin’s effort.
