Kpop has its popularity soaring with each passing day. As an industry, it is extremely competitive, and to make a foothold takes a lot of perseverance and effort. Idols, before they debut, are given training by their agencies. Overall grooming is done before a group makes its debut, and this training can continue for years.
A strict regime is followed where trainees have to wake up early morning and even practice for 14 to 16 hours a day. In the entertainment industry, a lot of focus is given to looks. South Korea is known to have extremely high beauty standards, and a majority of the idols have to abide by that. Some even revealed that the idols, especially females, have to check their weight at the end of the day. Now, every body type is not the same and hence not every person can look the same way. However, many times not fitting into the standard type of beauty standard has resulted in extreme backslash from the people.
However, it needs to mention that it’s all about perception and not all believe in such standards. Though there are people who think that they have some sort of ownership over their idols which results in comments such statements. Well, this is toxic.

Why Is Ugliest Kpop Idols Trending?
This trend is not new as time, and again idols have been criticized even if there is the slightest change in their body structure. Many idols have been subject to trolls regarding their appearance. RM of BTS has received such hate comments since the start of his career, due to which he used to wear glasses so that his eyes remain covered. However, without a doubt, the eyes are one of his most beautiful features. To date, he gets trolled for the way he looks, and the reasons are downright ridiculous. Even J-Hope from BTS as well received hate comments about his visuals, and we cannot agree less. He not only looks good but also is the dance leader of BTS. Radiating happiness is his thing, that’s why he is known as the sunshine.
Hwasa from Mamamoo also faced such situations as she doesn’t fit into the standard beauty that people expect from Kpop idols. That didn’t stop Hwasa from creating her impeccable stage presence. She knows how to own the stage. She has also been criticized for her dressing sense. However, our queen knows what she is doing. She is unapologetically herself, and since the trolls don’t like her, all we can say is it’s their loss. Umji was also called out for having a round facial structure and not fitting into standardized body types. Lisa from Blackpink was also showered with hate for such absurd reasons. Calling a sweet personality like Lisa ugly, one thinks in a different direction. She is an extremely talented performer, and we love her. These are just some of the names among the many others who have been victims of such malicious trolls.
The idols, among others who are subjected to such malicious comments, surely have a lot more to offer than just the average concept of beauty that fans have processed inside their minds. South Korea is a country with high suicide rates. Previously as well, idols died by suicide due to intense cyberbullying, where they were pointed out for the way they looked and even dressed.
Comments like this can never be accepted, and such trends can be detrimental to the mental health of idols. Just because they are public figures that don’t mean it’s okay to bash them for such irrelevant matters and something they don’t even have control over. Beauty is never only about appearance, but a lot has to do with the overall personality of an individual. One can have a preference of their own. However, that doesn’t mean one can demean the other just because they don’t fit into their thoughts of beauty. Every human being is beautiful in their way.
