Australia’s very own adaptation of Lego Masters will soon be releasing an all-new episode this week. With one team already out of the competition, things are finally starting to get intense for the remaining pairs as they try to come up with much more innovative and exciting builds for each challenge.
Airing on television since April 28th, 2019, Lego Master Australia follows a similar concept to its British counterpart, with contestants competing in challenges each week to secure their position in the game. The host for season 5 of Lego Masters Australia will be Hamish Blake, while the task of judging each build will be given to “The Brickman” himself, Ryan McNaught.
The Australian version of the Lego game show is the only adaptation to win an award in the United States. After the success of its first-ever season, the series came out with new installments each year, with the latest season 5 premiering on April 10th, 2023. It began with a total of 8 aspiring Lego masters, all being old players from the previous seasons. This season is also referred to as Lego Masters: Grand Masters, as the contestants are all known experts in the game.
Lego Masters Australia Season 5: Recap
In the previous episodes of the show, we see all eight teams coming up with their interpretations of each challenge and managing to impress the judges with their colorful perspectives and skills. The season began with the contestants creating a build that would not only survive a steep waterfall slide but would also have a story to tell as it went down into the waters.
The golden brick was soon introduced, and since Scott and Owen were the ones to score the highest on the leaderboard, they were given the golden brick. The next challenge involved creating builds to complete a theme park, and each lot was given to each team.
The ones to decide the lots were Joss and Henry, as their model survived the first test. They made a skull coaster that was rigid enough to maintain its original structure but light enough to move through the tracks flawlessly.
The timer was started after the lots were allotted, and the teams were given a total of 12 hours for the massive build. Joss and Henry decide to build a spooky land inspired by their coaster. Ryan and Gabby came up with a park called “Big Stuff” that would be inspired by all major Australian landmarks. Caleb and Alex build a giant dinosaur, sitting in a pit of lava with rivers on both sides.
Since it was the first elimination in the challenge, the judges were going to assess each build in two different ways. They would first see the model from the outside and judge it by its colorful and interesting elements. The next assessment would be a POV, where the judges would put a camera on the coaster and experience the ride firsthand through the theme park.
While building the models, the contestants are allowed to test their theme park’s POV, which ends up giving them a much better idea of how the elements should be placed to create the most thrilling ride. The winners of the golden brick were Henry and Joss. The pair to go home were Kale and Trent.
