The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 2 Episode 10
True to its name, “The Killbox,” episode 10 depicts a gruesome battle between Grog and Vox Machina against Kevdak.
The episode opens with Vax, Vex, Percy, and Keyleth entering the palace, where Keeper, Yennen, Cassandra, Gilmore, and every other sorcerer are present. After being reunited, they try to figure out the whereabouts of the rest of the members, when Allura casts a spell and shows Grog, Pike, and Scanlan in Westruun.
The next scene takes us to Westruun. We see Grog confronting his uncle, Kevdak, and challenging him to single combat to restore the honor of the Herd. Pike and Scanlan are joined by Kaylie, when they watch Grog confronting Kevdak, from afar. In the makeshift ring, the fight starts. Grog gets beaten up mercilessly by Kevdak, who yields a Vestige, which makes him as strong as a beast. When Kevdak is about to smash Grog’s face, they spot Pike, Scanlan, and Kaylie. The three try to put up a fight but Kevdak captures the three, which terrorizes Grog.
Kevdak then pushes Grog onto a palisade and leaves him stuck there. He then approaches Pike and as he is about to crush her head, Grog hears the voice of the Groon, who asks him about his source of strength. At the same time, Pike pleads with him to help her. Seeing her, Grog finally realizes the source of his strength and gains back his muscles, and increases in size, subsequently, attacking Kevdak.
The fight starts again and Grog is seen to have the upper hand until Kevdak claps his gauntlets together to double his size. Taking the advantage of his size, Kevdak mercilessly thrashes Grog. When Kevdak is about to hit the final blow, Grog sees Vax and his other friends coming in. Grog gives them a sign to attack. As a result, another phase of the fight breaks out with each member using their abilities to fight against Kevdak. In the background, strong metallic music is played by Scanlan as encouragement. In between the battle, Zanror, Kevdak’s son, is seen to be fighting his father too. Still, at a disadvantage, Vex gets an idea and releases Trinkets and locks Grog inside the amulet from Zahra, before releasing it on top of Kevdak. Grog then breaks out of the amulet, strikes Kevdak, acquires the gauntlets from his hands, and cuts Kevdak to his waist.
Kevdak dies and the herd starts chanting Grog’s name. He announces the freedom of the herd and further announces Zanror as the Thunderlord of the Herd.
At night, the herd and Vox Machina celebrate their freedom together. Grog plans on taking down the acid-spitting dragon, Umbrasyl, with Percy and Zanror. On the other side, Vax is seen to be disturbed by his vision of the Matron of Ravens.
The episode concludes with Scanlan being tied up to the bed by Kaylie and her revealing that she is his daughter.

The episode, “Belly of the Beast,”starts in Kaylie’s room where Scanlan is tied to the bed. Kaylie is seen pointing a sword toward him. Scanlan is seen to be shocked by the revelation of Kaylie being his daughter. He apologizes to him for not knowing and narrates the story of a woman, he fell in love with. Later realizing that that woman was not her mother. She is the daughter of another woman named Sybil. Scanlan admits that he doesn’t remember her, to which Kaylie wants to kill him. But killing him, being an easy way out, Kaylie leaves her sword with him as a burden as he always runs away from responsibilities.
On the other side, Vax is called outside of the party by a weird golden string light, where he witnesses all the dead bodies rising and pleading with him to send them to the “beyond,” and he feels himself being drawn in the direction of the Matron of Ravens.
On Thordak’s lair, Thordak gives a warning to Umbrasyl to get him the vestiges as soon as possible. After Thordak leaves, Anna Ripley comes and suggests acquiring the gauntlets of Kevdak.
The next morning, Percy plans out his strategy to capture Umbrasyl when Vex sees Vax leaving the gathering. Vex and Keyleth follow him out to ask about what is bothering him. In reply, Vax tells her about the Matron of Ravens. Vex offers to help him but he refuses to say he will find the answers alone.
In the next scene, Vax enters the avenue of the Matron and finds a pool of red liquid, he jumps in and begins to sink and soon loses consciousness. He wakes up to find the Matron in front of him. She tells him to shepherd the souls of the dead to maintain their sanctity as she has chosen him to be the Champion of the Ravens. Vax accepts the responsibility, and Matron tells him to not be afraid of death.
At the tavern where Percy is planning on the strategy to capture the dragon, Zanror hands over Kevdak’s Bloodaxe to Grog as he thinks that Grog is fitter for it.
On the other side, Scanlan tries to convince Kaylie that he can change. But she doesn’t pay heed to him and leaves for Merquet.
Later, the trap is prepared for Umbrasyl, and the herd and Vox Machina hide nearby as they wait for the dragon to show up. Just when they think they have Umbrasyl in their grasp, the cage breaks loose. The dragon uses his invisible power to attack them which puts the team in a difficult position as they can’t see it. At that point, Scanlan devises a plan in which he and Vax must enter the dragon. Scanlan forces Vax and himself inside Umbrasyl with the help of his magical hand.
Scanlan stabs his sword inside the dragon and the Umbrasyl is unable to fly. Grog takes the opportunity to hit a huge blow on it. Still, Umbrasyl manages to fly and takes Grog, Scanlan, and Vax along with it.

At the same time, Umbrasyl spits acid on Grog, who falls but manages to grow larger to lessen the force of the fall. However, his leg is broken. Vax and Scanlan can escape from the dragon’s stomach with the use of the bard’s magical hand, but Umbrasyl destroys the hand and knocks Scanlan down.
While falling to their deaths, Vax asks Matron for help and he is given two raven wings that he uses to save Scanlan and fly away.
On the other hand, Pike and the other people rush there to assist Grog.
Vax arrives with Scanlan in his arms. At the same time, Percy spots Umbrasyl entering a mountain. Vax suggests the team take the advantage of the injured Umbrasyl. On the other side, Umbrasyl is seen to heal itself.

The rest of the crew enters, leaving Pike in charge of Grog, and they do so just in time to prevent Umbrasyl from killing Vax. However, they cannot handle the acid produced by the Umbrasyl. They manage to leave the dragon’s lair and move to a different location as the dragon is stopped by its size.
Umbrasyl bursts into the cavern and begins annihilating every member as Scanlan is still coming to grips with Vax. He succeeds in capturing Fenthras from Vex. Pike and Grog intervene at that precise moment to save them. Every member has been severely beaten and is bleeding, and Scanlan realizes that he can no longer escape his duty.
However, Umbrasyl finally acquires 3 vestiges of divergence. As Umbrasyl prepares to kill Vox Machina with the last stroke, Scanlan approaches the dragon, grabs the Mythcarver, brings it down into the dragon’s eye, and kills it.
As soon as the dragon dies, the members find a huge heap of gold and a magic key.
