While in this fantasy land, he meets some new characters. Unfortunately, his stay in this world is short-lived, as he is soon killed by a witch named Elsa.
It is after his death Subaru finds himself in the exact same place where he was when he reached this fantasy kingdom. Subaru realizes he has the power to control and turn back time each time he dies, and thus begins his crazy adventures.

Subaru experiences many adventures during his journey and also meets some other new characters making new friends along the way. Every time he dies and is revived again, he only to find himself remembering everything that happened in the past.
Subaru also faces problems and obstacles as he is the only one who remembers the incidents leading to his death many times, not even knowing who killed him. He thus has trouble trusting people and making them understand what is happening to him. Although he successfully completes his missions and helps his new friends in this mindblowing journey.
Re: Zero – Characters
What makes a good anime the best one out there is the overall character development and the way in which they are written, and Re: Zero sure did an amazing job in finding and writing the most unique characters we have ever seen. The magical characters sure look cool and totally badass, but that is not the only good thing about them.
The overall character development was done in a way where we individually saw each character grow and become better and better over time. Let us talk about some of the main characters and how they made the story and feel of the anime better.
Subaru Natsuki is the main protagonist of the story and the character who improved the most during the anime. At first glance, we see Subaru as a nice innocent guy who tries not to hurt anyone. He does not have much fight inside of him and thus is constantly pushed around by those more powerful than him. But as the anime proceeds, Subaru becomes a brave man.
He does his best to save his friends from all harm and even fights the fights that are not his to fight. He starts taking rational decisions and becomes calm and composed, evolving from this clueless young boy in the beginning to someone who plans their next move and takes decisions rationally.
Emilia, the main heroine of the show, is not a girl who would rely on anyone to do her work. This silver-haired, purple-eyed girl, as we see in the beginning, is a strong woman solving her problems on her own, not relying on anyone for anything.
We see Emilia as a cold closed person who doesn’t show much affection. She never shows what she is feeling on her face and thus appears to be strong. As we soon realize, this behavior of hers takes a toll on her mental health, and Emilia becomes very fragile from the inside.
She also overcomes and becomes more open to people as the show proceeds to make her more likable as a character. We also see her hitting her lowest point in the series but learning to overcome it and move forward. This emotional journey of Emilia makes the viewers feel more attached to her and feel her pain.
Re: Zero has more characters like this, each having their own story and weaknesses that they learn to overcome throughout the show. This makes the show more fun to watch it also helps the viewers relate with the characters more. We see the story of each character fighting their own battles while the main story proceeds.
The show also has great animations that make it more fun to watch, and thus the viewers will not get bored or feel like they are watching a cartoon show as the animations are really well done and make the show feel more intense, thus keeping the audience always engaged.
Re: Zero – Final Verdict
Our final take on the show is that Re: Zero – Starting life in another world is an anime worth watching. The show is written in a great way with a lot of twists and turns, plus the ability of Subaru to be revived after dying adds a lot more room for the writers to bend the story and add several plot twists.
Re: Zero is one of the best shows out there belonging to this genre, and it should be on your watchlist if you are a fan of time-traveling shows or psychological thriller shows in general.
Our Rating: ⭐ (4.3/5).
