After the great success of one of the most popular shows on Netflix, “Dark”, the creators, Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Friese are back. This time, with another enthralling adventure that takes us back into history, set overseas on a doomed ocean liner. The story showcases a ship of primarily European immigrants traveling overseas on a steamship to America.
But, slowly and gradually, their journey starts to turn into a nightmare. We’re going to get our first look at the new series in June, and we’re told the series is eyeing a November 2022 release date. We’ll get our first glimpse at the new series in June, and it’s set to premiere in November 2022, according to reports.
Netflix’s 1899 is from the same duo who brought us Dark, so we can expect something special. Despite the lack of time travel, showrunners Friese and Odar give a few hints regarding the series’ overarching direction. The teaser also reveals 1899’s production values. These include a large cast, complex scenes, stunning costume designs, and ambitious special effects. The creator hints that the best way to overcome any secrets and riddles the series throws at us will be observation and that altering our viewpoint will be vital to truly appreciate it. So it’ll be time to postulate very soon.
1899 Trailer Explained
In the beginning, we can see a hand that mostly looks like a hand of a child holding a mystery pyramid-like structure. This might be some kind of key, as we might see in the series. The trailer then jumps off to Emily Beechman as Maura Franklin, who seems to have a mission to travel on this ship. The bruises on her wrist seem to remind her of the torture or trauma she might have gone through in her past. Furthermore, we see a blonde, pregnant lady who seems to be in a state of shock. It appears that she might also have an important role to play in the story.
The trailer then shifts to a big hall with a lot of people. We can see Rosalie Craig’s character, Virginia, talking to Muara Franklin. Also, the uniform sipping of tea in the hall might be to display Virginia as a powerful character in the story. Meanwhile, we can see a big poster behind the hall, which, according to theories, is going to hold many secrets. Thus, we can see that the trailer itself is catching up well in grabbing the attention of the viewers.
Mystery material in the 1899 trailer
As we move forward, we can see a series of characters and the beginning of a revolution among the people. The scene between the child and Maura Franklin has also seemed to have aroused many theories. Many say that this child could be holding tons of secrets about various people on the boat.
As the story progresses, the situation seems to be getting more adverse, with the bodies of people lying down on the floor, causing a bit of commotion. When we all thought the story might not get any more complex, the dark creative duo came up with the scene of some kind of dark matter which looks like graphite growing out of a door or wall. It certainly has grabbed the viewer’s attention and also sparked a number of fan theories. The triangle-type symbol both on the child’s neck and the geisha’s kimono suggests some relation or maybe some historical past.
We can also see the help symbol lit up bright from the ship, and this signals to the viewers that some serious problems are going on within the ship. The story then seems to have taken a major turn as we see a massive whirlpool, where the Kerberos seems to be drifting into it. The creators had already stated that this was not time travel, therefore again giving rise to a bunch of theories.
1899, The next obsession?
Overall, the trailer seems to have a very positive effect on the fans and the viewers. It has successfully captured the public’s attention once more. This series might be the next obsession of all the people around me who are into mystery series. The creators of this series have also revealed to viewers that they will have most of the fun figuring out each character’s mystery: “All the passengers on the ship are traveling with secrets that they don’t want to get out. It’s built like a puzzle again.”
