Comedy Central’s hit series starring Awkwafina, Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens, will soon start airing episodes of its newest season. The second season managed to feature Nora going all the way to New Mexico and adapting to a cottage-core life while the rest of the world was busy dealing with COVID. She eventually returns after finding Grandma’s letters, and the season ends with both of them isolating together.
Airing since January 22nd, 2020, this series documents the life of Nora Lum, an adult woman who’s still figuring out her life while staying with her father, grandma, and Cousin Edmund. They live in an apartment in NYC, and we see each of them dealing with their problems while helping out each other whenever needed. For instance, in season 2, we see Nora helping Edmund’s dream of being in Hollywood become a reality by taking him to LA in her car. Despite having comedic feuds, they always stick to each other’s side.
Awkwafina serves as the creator of the show and stars as the main character, with most of Nora’s personality being rooted in Awkwafina’s real-life persona. Her name is also taken directly from the actress’s birth name. Teresa Hsiao is also one of the creators, with Karey Dornetto (South Park, Portlandia) and Lucia Aniello (Hacks, Broad City) serving as executive producers of the series.
Other cast members that are a part of the show are Lori Tan Chinn as Grandmother and BD Wong in the role of Wally, Nora’s single father. Recurring actors we see in the scenes are Chrissie Fit, Jonathan Park, Bowen Yang, and Jennifer Esposito. With the second season managing to capture audiences’ attention with its hilarious scenes perfectly, a new season was announced right after season 2 ended back in October of 2021.
Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens: Season 2’s Recap
The previous season begins with Nora dreaming of being proposed to, only to be woken up shortly by Grandma. She heads to work at a CBD store, and a man looking around the store tries to guide her toward a better work ethic. This puts her off, and she goes on a rant, only to find out that the man was the owner of the CBD company she worked for and was also one of her schoolmates back in high school.
Edmund finds out that his whole college life at one of the best universities was only because of his mother and not his hard work. He promptly decides to leave Silicon Valley and instead focus on his true dream career, which is being a successful actor. He cuts off all funding from his mom and tries to go around NYC looking for good acting gigs. Nora’s father forms a good relationship with Brenda and asks Nora to accompany them for a family dinner.
During the dinner, Nora tries her best to give Brenda the wrong impression. She dresses up as a goth and becomes mean and hateful out of spite. Brenda, on the other hand, tries to talk to her despite her prickly appearance, and they eventually decide to go on a trip together. Later we see Edmund coming up with an idea that involves him going to LA to fulfill his dream. With no other way in sight, Nora decides to be the one dropping him off with her car.
She doesn’t fit in and finds herself feeling alone, and tries to go back home alone. After getting lost, she ends up in New Mexico and recalls her aunt living nearby. When she gets there, Nora realizes that her aunt is part of a cult-like commune but decides to live with her anyway. COVID spreads back home in NYC, and when Nora finally gets to know about her grandmother’s lonely routine, she goes back home and spends the lockdown with her while her father gets stuck with Brenda.
