House of The Dragon is the upcoming prequel series of the most popular American fantasy drama, “Game Of Thrones.” The new series is entirely based on the dragons of the Targaryen family. Based on George R.R Martin’s novel “Fire & Blood”, the upcoming drama will outshine the sequel with the introduction of numerous dragons in it. Game of Thrones, however, revolved around three dragons of Daenerys Targaryen. This time the drama is going to feature 17 dragons in total.
As many dragons were killed during Valyria’s volcano eruption, the House of The Dragon will focus on the dragons that helped the Targaryens conquer the seven kingdoms and rule the empire. Precisely, the series will focus on the story of the dance of the dragons. For the uninitiated, it was the brutal civil war that happened years back when the original GOT story began. The war tore Westeros apart while the dragon family royal family conquered part of it. The article will cover all the 17 dragons in the House of The Dragon.
All The Dragons in The House of The Dragon
In the original book, there were 20 dragons during the ” Dance of Dragons.” However, the series will feature only 17 of them. As for now, we don’t have any idea which of these dragons will appear in the series. However, these dragons played an important role during the war. Keep reading to know the most likely dragons that will be part of the House of The Dragon.
1) Syrax
Syrax is Rhaenydra Targaryen’s dragon. There are high chances that it will surely feature in the House of The Dragon. Rhaenydra, played by Ella D’Arcy, is the niece of Daemon. Syrax is one of the most important dragons during the war. She was named after the Valyrian goddess. The dragon is known for its yellow scales on the body.
2) Dreamfyre
Dreamfyre is a multi-color dragon. Young and energetic women rode the dragons. Queen Helaena Targaryen started ridding them at the age of 11; however, after she lost her brother im the battle, Queen never fled the dragon ever in her life. Thus, they were tied in the dragon pit.
3) Caraxes
Caraxes is one of the oldest dragons of the Targaryen family. Aemon Targaryen initially rode the dragon; however, after he died, his nephew Daemon owned it. It is a red-colored giant dragon that helped the Targaryen family during the civil war. Matt Smith will portray the character of Daemon.
4) Meleys
The next dragon in the House of The Dragon will probably be Meleys. Meleys is Rhaenys Targaryen’s dragon. She is one largest dragons that will appear in the show. It is a bright red color dragon and is also known as “The Red Queen.”
5) Sunfyre
Sunfyre, as the name suggests, is the gleaning golden dragon scales dragon that Aegon Targaryen will ride. She is one of the youngest dragons in the war.
5) Vermithor
Vermithor is the third largest dragon, widely known as Bronze Fury. Undoubtedly, the name was given as it is a bronze dragon. Most likely, it will feature in the House of the Dargon. Vermithor was owned by King Viserys’s grandfather King Jaehaerys; however, a brute named Hugh the Hammer rode her in the novel.
6) Vhagar
Vhagar, as we all know, is one of the most important dragons of the Targaryen family. She is the second largest dragon in The House Of the Dragon. Queen Visenya rode Vhagar during the war; later, it was passed to the next generation ridden by Aemond Targaryen, brother of Daergon and Aegon. The dragon is bronze in color and has green scales with a touch of blue. She is also known for her bright green eyes.
7) Tessarion
One of the characters in the House of the Dragon is Daeron Targaryen. Daeron is the youngest brother of Aegon. He is known for riding the Blue scales Tessarion. The dragon has blue wings and gives out the flame of the same color that earned her the name “The Blue Queen.”
8) Seasmoke
Another cast member from the House of The Dargon, Laenor Velaryon, the son of Rhaenys Targaryen, owned this Silver-gray dragon. During the civil war, it was claimed by Addam of Hull.
9) Vermax
Vermax is one of the strongest dragons in the House of Dragon. The dragon had an egg that helped it grow stronger every year. Vermax was ridden by Jacaerys.
10) Arrax
Arrax is a Lucerys dragon. She was powerful but never lived to her full potential. Arrax will be part of its first dragon vs. dragon battle in the House of The Dragon. She fought with Vhagar.
11) Tyraxes
Tyraxes are the young babies used in the battle for transport purposes. They had recently trained themselves to travel long distances. After losing two of her sons in battle, Queen Rhaenyra forbade her younger son to join the battle, thus leaving Tyraxes only used for transport.
12) Moondancer
Moondancer is a beautiful young and dynamic dragon of Beala. The dragon was very powerful and did dreadful harm to Sunfyre. Although Sunfyre lost his eyesight, he returned and engulfed Moondancer.
13) Shrykos
Shrykos is owned by Jaehaera. However, Jaehaera was murdered when he was very young, leaving the dragon all alone. Shaykos killed several people on Dragonpit’s attack. However, he was brutally killed by Hobb the Hewer.
14) Silverwing
Silverwing is the oldest and one of the four dragons saved after the war. Good Queen Alyssanne owned her. However, after the Queen died, the dragon seemed unwilling to accept anyone as her owner. Nonetheless, she finally accepted Ulf The Young as her owner. Unfortunately, Silverwing was again left alone after Ulf died. Her pain worsens when Vermithor dies on the battleground.
15) Sheepstealer
Sheepstealer is yet another dragon from Dragonstone. The wild dragon was named so because of its taste for mutton. She is one of the three wild dragons that live in dragon stone. Sheepstealer is fond of mutton and eats fresh mutton every day. The brown color dragon is ridden by a young girl, Nettles.
16) StormCloud
King Aegon III Targaryen rides Stormcloud. The dragon was powerful and was known for its speed. However, she died while sending her owner back to dragon stone. Stormcloud suffered multiple injuries on the way back with the King.
17) Balerion The Black Dread
Balerion, The Black Dread, is the strongest and largest dragon in the novel. Because of its power, Balerion could be a part of The House of Dragon. However, the dragon died in the reign of Jaehaerys. So, the only possible way to feature the dragon on the screen is to change the storyline, or maybe it could be seen in the flashback.
