We’re recapping down the Rick And Morty Season 6 Episode 5. The new episode is filled with lots of hidden details and also some callbacks to earlier entries in this show. The episode shows us a lot of fortune cookies and a lot of deaths. Also, neither the fortune cookies nor the death is any plain or basic. This episode was majorly focused on Rick and Jerry.
The whole story of the episode is that when The Smith family goes to a Chinese Restaurant and then Jerry gets a fortune cookie that reads that he will be having sex with his mom. And the whole episode revolves around Rick and Jerry trying to undo this fortune cookie fate. There were a lot of funny moments that were created due to this part of the story. And people love seeing Jerry getting bullied which, includes his family too. They all tease him a lot, and it’s fun to see it.
Rick And Morty Season 6 Episode 5 Recap
As I said, this episode is very fortune cookie-based, and it has a firm called Fortune 500, a yearly list published by Fortune magazine that records the top 500 corporations. The episode, which is centered on Jerry and Rick, is called Final Desmithation, and it took me about 20 tries to say it perfectly. The title obviously refers to the Final Destination movie series, in which protagonists who avoided death were gradually eliminated one by one. Trying to alter your future, or in this case, your fortune, was the central theme of the franchise.
As we begin, the Smith Sanchez family has just had a fantastic Chow May-en at Panda Express. Additionally, we learn that Rick’s ringtone was changed by Morty and Summer to the taxi theme as a result of a TikTok craze. They say that it ey and slaps. It certainly does, as both the shootout sequence in the Panda Express and the soundtrack that plays over the credits at the ending use this music.
Rick now uses arms that sprout out of his back like those of a Doctor Octopus. But he settles on simply two forks in place of chopsticks. They are now offered some fortune cookies, which it turns out are actually made of alien poo.
The Fortune 500 firm actually uses an alien with the ability to transform chaos into fate. It absorbs chaos from the cosmos and draws the unknowable nearer the known. As a result, the fortunes inside the cookies are guaranteed, and as a result, there is no way to avoid them.
Jerry In The Fear Of Fortune Cookie
The majority of fortune cookies are rather simple, and Beth and Morty’s are similar. Both mention spending time with family and how it’s time well spent, which is related to their visit to the zoo. But this eventually leads to Jerry’s favorite family activity because he gets a cookie that he will have sex with his mother. We now cut to the titles after Jerry’s mother initially appeared in Anatomy Park in season 1. But we’ll get right to it here.
Jerry is naturally alarmed by this fortune cookie message since he believes it might be true. All of a sudden, references to his mother start appearing everywhere, and he starts to fear that his fate has already been decided. The taunting and the part about the cabinet and fake mother, in my opinion, were both hilarious. He ultimately decides to dress up as Morty since, according to him, if he has sex with his mother, it will be Beth.
There is an interesting image in the Smith Sanchez home that I don’t believe has ever been seen before: stills from the very first motion picture ever made. This involves a man riding on the back of a horse, and Jordan Peele’s film Nope made frequent use of it. Jerry requests that they capture pictures of his favorite animal, the white tiger. Beth replies by saying, “Because they breed via incest”.
This may actually bring to mind a story from a few years ago about how the world’s most ugly tiger was bred in an effort to make money. Due to their inbreeding of white tigers, which I believe this is related to, it had an extremely odd face.
Back To Panda Express
Rick finds that there is a very high likelihood that this is a real thing in which he has intercourse with her after running a number of scientific tests. Rick conducts the tests while using a tool that resembles a PKE meter, giving us a literal “dick in a box” test. The way the two rods burst out leads me to believe that this design was inspired by Ghostbusters because these were used in that movie.
When the two go back to the Panda Express, they notice some untrustworthy staff workers in the back. One of them has a tattoo tear, a second has a scar on his face, and the third is highly tattooed and missing an eye. As they finish packaging the meth, they immediately begin firing. The chef briefly appears in the frame, and while the carnage continues, Jerry’s mother begins texting some potentially misleading messages.
The ship exploding away within the restaurant, much like Walt’s car did when he attempted to save Jesse, gave off strong vibes of the finale of Breaking Bad. Of course, this eatery is also a meth front, just like the one Gustavo was operating under the guise of Los Pollos Hermanos. But it turns out that everything was all a great misunderstanding, and they were given the address to the Fortune 500.
Into The Fortune 500
Rick and Jerry get into the Fortune 500 building, and it seems it’s too techy for being a building that makes fortune cookies. I found the retina scan humorous because it looked like something out of the movie Minority Report with spiders covering his eyes. Now that he has a mechanical eye that sticks from his skull, Rick is able to keep watch over the area.
It’s obvious that this is modeled on devices like the inspector gadget, and we’ve seen the entire family use it on items like fingers. We saw in Season 3 Episode 5 that his second eye could change into a target, and a great little joke there was that it affected his ability to see depth.
In any case, there are numerous cameras in the area, so turning them off would be more noticeable than simply dressing up. Rick then says, “Hive me suits beyond suits.” This brings to mind the Thundercats, where the eye of Thundera once gave sight beyond the usual.
In the end, Rick dresses up in the same suit and sunglasses that Run The Jewels’ character had in the Oh Mama music video. Go watch it; it’s a great song and music video. With Jerry’s transformation, there is now a very obvious reference to Sailor Moon as well. I love it when they give subtle references to things like this, and Rick even mentions how they could use this often if he ever worked as his assistant in an episode. Evidently, Sailor Moon continued reusing animations, and they finally do so in this episode.
Jerry, ironically, wears his regular clothing in the end, so getting dressed in the first place was absolutely meaningless. This prevents him from looking like Morty and may help bring his fate closer to reality. They also blend in with the background, which was a skill we first saw Rick perform in the decoy episode.
CEO That Can Chane Your Fate
The world’s most successful leaders appear to be attending a big meeting. We now meet the CEO, who I found to be very similar to Sharon Stone. She started the business from scratch when the alien life form crashed in her backyard. In the end, she received a cookie that predicted she would become the world’s most successful businesswoman. Rick ultimately contributes to this by taking trillions of dollars out of Goldman Sachs to purchase the company. In the end, he returns everything, but because the fortune came, it is now void.
If you give her enough money, she claims she can change your destiny, and she might be modeled after Elizabeth Holmes. Holmes was the CEO of a company that made the claim that it could create extremely accurate blood tests, however, these tests had serious flaws and didn’t perform as promised. Ultimately, she was forced to close down after receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in investments. Due to her deceit and lying, she is now regarded as a massive failure.
With security officers kicking Rick around, these are generally tough to escape, but Rick realizes that he can use Jerry as a cover because Jerry’s future hasn’t yet occurred. When they scan Jerry, we notice that the circle that hovers over him is actually from a zodiac sign, which is a neat little touch.
A Lot Of Deaths
They now encounter the Fortune Smith and the person responsible for creating them. The latter seems to be modeled on the character from Waterworld who was left in the tanker in the oil to keep track of things. The creature itself appears to be inspired by the sister of fate from God of War 2, who ties together all the strings of a person’s life to determine their fate.
In an effort to get someone to come and save him, the fresh fortunes have been distributed. He has recently sent out a number of messages, one of which explained how a virus would ultimately bring down the entire world. The CEO has invited Jerry’s mother in, and after all the guards grab a few cookies, Rick uses wit to trick them into killing one another.
In one scene, someone has the ability to control the body’s water in a manner reminiscent of the Atlanteans in Snyder’s Justice League. Rick decides to leave someone there who can stick to walls, along with a guard who gains immortality. However, this doesn’t make he can’t feel pain, and he is ultimately shot a few times by a minigungu. Additionally, Rick comes across various fortune cookies that have unexpected outcomes, which he then drops into people’s mouths. One changes into the red ranger T-Rex from Power Rangers, which you might remember if you were born in the 1990s.
Rick And Morty Season 6 Episode 5 Ending Explained
When the CEO’s fate comes true, she ends up eating a lot of strange cookies, which turns her into a huge monster in the style of Resident Evil. The monster of fate eventually goes berserk, and my Crazy man realizes he’s romanticized a wild animal. He mentions Margaret Howe, a participant in a NASA-funded study to see whether a dolphin by the name of Peter could imitate human speech.
Margaret would often choke the dolphin, as my man says, to satisfy the urge and continue with the lesson. Since there was no natural light in the spaces, it eventually became so depressing that Peter drowned himself. This is a rather strange story that I urge you to read.
The weird dude is similarly torn to how Starro was torn to pieces by the Thinker in Suicide Squad. The creatures eat the CEO, resulting in a void that results in some funny acts that Jerry and his mother narrowly miss. Rick receives a thank-you note from Jerry, who also refers to him as a friend. It turns out that Rick had immortality up until he made a new friend, which Jerry has now taken away from him. Though I secretly believe they like each other, the true friends were the ones we met along the way.
In any case, the post-credits stinger takes us to the zoo, where we witness people eating zebra stuff. After making fun of Jerry eating it at the start of the episode, everyone ends up eating it. Morty is completely confused by this warning and doesn’t know what to do after realizing that it’s a human zoo. Anyway, there concludes the episode, and this was again one I really enjoyed. This season has a lot of strange incest material, but overall, I had fun with it, and I hope you did too.
According to the Rick and Morty Season 6 Episode 6 description, “The former rulers of Earth return, appearing out of the blue. They make a compelling case for changing the way society conducts business, but Rick won’t stand for it.” This little information suggests that the upcoming episode might feature a dinosaur theme. When combined with the “Jurrasic Park” title riff from the show, who else could “Earth’s old overlords” be referring to? Dan Harmon said that Evil Morty would make an appearance, so maybe he will.
