In the newest turn of events, Vanessa Bryant and her co-plaintiff, Chris Chester, will be receiving a combined $31 million by a Los Angeles jury. Vanessa and Chris Chester, who tragically lost his wife Sarah and their 13-year-old daughter Payton in the tragic 2020 crash, sued Los Angeles County with charges of causing emotional distress and mental anguish after discovering how some of the members of the department had shared photos of the victims’ remains.
The final verdict arrived late Wednesday afternoon. The jury finally found out that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and Fire Department (LAFD) did share photos of the bodies of Bryant and Chris’ loved ones, and this has been seen as an invasion of their privacy and has further caused emotional distress.
What Is The Trial All About?
After analyzing the entire incident, the jury finally passed the order to the LASD and asked them to pay Vanessa $10 million and to pay Chris a total of $9 million. As per the order, the LAFD is ordered to pay the pair $6 million each. The big decision came. On a rather momentary day as it was Kobe Bryant, aka Mamba Day, which is a day that honors the late Los Angeles Lakers icon whose jersey numbers #8 and #24 day.
At the time of the crash, Kobe and Gianna were reportedly traveling to a youth basketball game with seven others passengers who lost their lives. In the trial, Chris and Vanessa claimed that gruesome photographs of the victims’ bodies were shared publicly on as many as 28 devices that were owned by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and also by more than a dozen first responders.
The ongoing trial started from August onwards, it further revealed the gruesome details about the aftermath of the tragic helicopter crash that took place in January 2020 that killed the NBA legend and 13-year-old Gianna Bryant along with the seven other people on board. Vanessa Bryant is yet to break her silence on the final verdict on the ongoing trial run.
