Another day in another Thai boys’ love series! People no longer need an introduction to Thai BL dramas as they have already made a mark by watching multiple Thai BL dramas in a month. Thai BL dramas have set a new benchmark for themselves in the last few years.
This post is about the latest BL drama, The Promise, which is set to release episode 5 soon. This 10-episode Thai BL series, which will premiere on March 1st, 2023, recounts the tale of two best friends who drifted apart after one of the lovers left the country but rekindled their friendship as adults.
Our two major characters, Nanfah and Phupha, have known each other since they were kids. Because Phupha’s dad owns an old coffee store next to Nanfah’s dad’s pharmacy, the two grew up together and had common experiences.
Phupha suddenly disappears from Nanfah’s world after finishing college and has yet to be seen or heard from for the past ten years. How would Nanfah start his new existence, given that Phupha had left him depressed and alone? And how will he get back in touch with Phupha, his beloved?

A quick recap
The last episode opens with Phupha practicing his lines for Romeo and Juliet while throwing up. Concerned, Nanfah rushes to the bathroom and tries to comfort his buddy. The action then returns to the present as Phupha arrives at Nanfah’s workplace to drop off a package.
When Nanfah’s boss, Ken, saw Phupha, he immediately demanded that he be chosen to present their proposal. Ken thought Phupha was the right candidate for the job because he had a straightforward and dynamic demeanor and had gained popularity for one of his singing videos.
He begged Nanfah if he could cast his friend in part, and despite her reluctance, Nanfah consented. Nanfah asked Phupha if he would be prepared to be the presenter when they next met at night. When Phupha heard this demand, he informed him of their agreement—that he wouldn’t ever force him to perform on stage again.
Phupha replaced Nnfah after he injured his leg in the Romeo and Juliet scene performed at the beginning. Phupha struggled with stage fright and avoided participating in any activities or performances that would make him stand out in front of others.
He warns Nanfah that if he plays the presenter, he might lose his position and doesn’t want that to happen. Without pressuring his friend, Nanfah welcomes the choice. He receives a call from Phupha’s family at that precise instant, and the two of them speak with his family.
It turns out that Phupha had been lying to Nanfah the entire time about living in Melbourne for the previous ten years. His family warned him to be honest with Nanfah, or he would ultimately learn the truth. Phupha responded that he’d let him know when the time was appropriate.
When Nanpha informs Ken the following day that Phupha is reluctant to accept the presenter role, Ken responds that his choice is final and that the team should find a means to bring him in. The rest of the staff begins looking for Phupha to bring in as their presenter as soon as they learn of their boss’ directive.
The team tries various things, including tarot cards, life coaches, and Gie Gie’s lip balm, which was meant to persuade Phupha to comply with her wishes but left her still hesitant to participate. Phupha eventually lost his cool and shooed everyone away.
Phupha worries about Nanfah and his work as the episode ends while remembering all the special times the two shared. Finally, he runs over to Nanfah and the other squad members to offer to be their presenter.
