With the most interesting premise yet, Undead Girl Murder Farce is the most anticipated anime crime drama since the announcement of its anime adaptation. With the anime in the making, the team behind its production dropped a visual for Nora the Werewolf and revealed that Nora’s voice actor will be Maaya Uchida.

Based on the novel written by Yugo Aosaki, Undead Girl Murder, Farce follows a “demon detective who hunts demons” and his loyal maid as they travel the north and south of Europe with a motive in mind. Set in a fantasy world filled with supernatural beings and magical wonders, the plot of this anime will surely keep you hooked and leave you eagerly waiting for the next episode.

With each volume of the manga, the reviews just seem to get better and better. The detectives in the anime are different, fun, and have distinct qualities to them. With captivating animation, and detailed storytelling, we’re more than excited to watch how this humorous murder mystery unfolds. With no exact release date announced, we can expect the anime to air in July, and of course, you can watch the series on Crunchyroll.

Comedy Crime Drama

First published in 2015, Undead Girl Murder Farce has 3 novel volumes as of 2021. Later, a manga adaptation came into the picture with Haruka Tomoyama as the illustrator. Initially serialized in 2016 in Kodansha’s Monthly Shōnen Sirius magazine, it was later acquired by Nemesis in 2017 and finally reached Comic Days in 2018. Overall, it has three manga volumes with an anime in the making.

Mamoru Hatakeyama will be directing the anime, while Lapin Track will do the production. The series composition will be handled by Noboru Takagi. Based on the original character designs, Noriko Itou will oversee character design accompanied by Naho Kozono as a sub-character designer and chief animation director. Music composition and sound directing will be handled by Yuma Yamaguchi and Kazuhiro Wakabayashi, respectively.

The Synopsis and Characters

The story unfolds in the late 19th century, where we first meet our strange, intriguing protagonist, Tsugaru Shinuchi. But here’s the twist, Tsugaru is not your typical detective. He’s half-demon and half-human, making him an unconventional yet compelling character. Together with his “loyal servant”, Shizuku Hasei, Tsugaru embarks on a mission across Europe to retrieve the remains of Aya Rindo, a young girl who was murdered by an unknown assailant.

But that’s not all. The only evidence they have is Aya’s disembodied head, which is mysteriously alive. As they travel through scenic European landscapes, uncovering dark secrets, Tsugaru and Shizuku are determined to solve the case behind Aya’s murder.

The characters include Tsugaru Shinuchi voiced by Taku Yashiro, Shizuku Hasei voiced by Makoto Koichi, Aya Rindo voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa, Annie Kerber voiced by Sayumi Suzushiro, Sherlock Holmes voiced by Shinichiro Miki, John H. Watson voiced by Masaki Aizawa and Arsene Lupin voiced by Mamoru Miyano.

To add more, Phantom is voiced by Hiro Shimono, James Moriarty is voiced by Wataru Yokojima, Aleister Crowley is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita, Carmilla is voiced by Reina Kondo, Victor is voiced by Itary Yamamoto and finally, Jack is voiced by Soma Saito.

This anime adaptation, no doubt, has great potential. If the scriptwriters and composition directors do a fantastic job, then Undead Girl Murder Farce will get the chance to be one of the good anime released this year. With almost no complaints from the first volume of the manga, the anime can receive a strong opening and immediately create a large fan following. As mentioned before, Crunchyroll will stream the anime internationally but not in Japan, leaving Japanese viewers depending on local streaming networks.
