We now know 3 of the five enemy kaiju Gamera will fight in the upcoming Gamera: Rebirth anime! The first two kaiju were revealed to be Gyaos and Jiger. On Sunday, the third kaiju, Zigra, was revealed by Kadokawa.
Gamera, a giant turtle-like kaiju, is one of Japan’s most famous cinematic characters. The world first heard of Gamera in the 1965 movie “Gamera, The Giant Monster,” and since then, the Japanese icon has appeared in 12 movies, increasing its popularity. Now, Gamera is set to make a comeback in the Netflix anime series Gamera: Rebirth.
Animated by ENGI, Hiroyuki Seshita will be directing the anime and promises to deliver to the fan’s expectations. Tetsu Ijima will do the production, and the characters will be designed by Atsushi Tamura. The monster design will be done by Kan Takahama instead of the character designer. Key visuals, posters, cast, and a trailer has been released for the six-episode series.
The Gamera series is highly anticipated, and fans are excited to see the S-tier animation in the works. Though an exact release date hasn’t been announced, it is expected to release in September of this year!

However, they are stopped in their tracks when Gyaos, a kaiju, attacks Tokyo. Their fear turns into admiration when Gamera appears and fights Gyaos. More About Gamera: Rebirth
There will also be a manga version for fans on Kadokawa’s Young Ace Up website and a novel version by Hiroyuki Seshita.
Resembling the character design from the 2015 Gamera short film, the monster’s body, head, and limbs look very similar to its previous version. The color palette has been changed a bit. It’s changed to a dark green-blue with bright green-blue features on this spiked back. With huge front “hands,” mesmerizing bright blueish eyes, and a longer tail, his limbs transform into flapping wings when he flies. From what we know, Gamera can fly and breathe fire; Monster designs look epic!
In November 2022, Kadokawa had some exciting news regarding the Gamera franchise and announced the Gamera: Rebirth anime. Somewhere else, Shusuke Kaneko (director of the Heisei Gamera trilogy) was thinking of adding another Gamera film to the series. However, by the time Kaneko had brought forward his idea, Kadokawa had already started work on Rebirth. At Tamashii Nation 2022, a figurine and newspaper of Gamera were displayed to build the hype for the anime.

The official Gamera: Rebirth Twitter account posted, “From the Showa era to the Heisei era, the production of the new work “GAMERA: REBIRTH” of the giant monster Gamera that has been loved by monster fans all over the world has been decided! Global distribution on Netflix!”,
Overall, it seems as if the fans are pretty excited about the anime and visuals. The slow release of key visuals has already gained a loyal fanbase. A fan hinted that Netflix could take the franchise further and make a CGI movie on Gamera as well. Well, for now, this is all we know. Waiting till September to watch it seems like a difficult task, but we’re sure it’ll be worth the wait.
Gamera: Rebirth will be streamed on Netflix around the world soon enough!
