Nvidia, oh Nvidia, how bad has things become for you? Once you were the champion of all providing Graphic cards that ruled the world, now you are just a time bomb that is on its way to self-destruct. Where to even begin with the company’s downfall? The short answer would be greed but saying that doesn’t invite much of a discussion. Especially when a big company falls flat on the floor and presses the panic button. In Nvidia’s case, that meant pricing their latest graphic card at $ 1599.
While greed is a motivator for many companies, most do it so that we (consumers and companies) end up in a win-win situation. Break that momentum, and you will have what Nvidia is going through, but they are not in a non-redeemable situation yet. But looking at the trajectory of the company and seeing that there will already be a *replacement* for them, the cards are stacked against the company.
What is Leading to Nvidia’s downfall?
It has only been five years since Nvidia has had competition from AMD, although AMD wasn’t too much of a competitor until RDNA. Before that, the Green company was unparalleled. It, along with Intel, could even be called the sole supplier of tech for everyone around the world. It was a no-brainer for anyone wanting to build the PC where their components would be from. But this created an issue for which the need for a competitor was felt by the consumer. You see, Nvidia ( along with Intel) ended up having monopolies in the market, and their innovation started to disappear.
They were no longer the cool guys who had tech that everyone would ask for. Instead, an era of rebranding began. Every new launch was marginally better than the last one, which created cynicism among the consumers. However, since there was no one else to go to, people took their stuff and didn’t complain. There was no helping it, and complaining wasn’t gonna make them their gaming rig. And before everyone knew it, it became a seller market with nothing for the consumer to pick from This mostly benefited Nvidia at most, although the company still provides quality despite the price. But AMD Ryzen and RDNA happened.
One of the old things (a grandpa’s tale at this point) was how bad the integrated graphics were. Intel did a poor job in making it and still doesn’t have a clue about it. This was one of the things that AMD thrived in when it first arrived. This proved one thing to everyone, AMD was a two-in-one deal now.
While it was recommended to have an external graphic card despite the internal graphic card, AMD-provided graphics worked pretty well. And many gamers who couldn’t afford the Graphic component gravitated toward the company. Sure, there was discourse among the customers, and many rejected the notion, but the results were impressive.
It was as if the company had forgotten what it was like to be challenged, but truth to be told, AMD never went for them or anyone. Its mission since Ryzen’s launch has been the satisfaction of customers with the promise of performance. Every AMD takes the stage, people know they are gonna do something new while keeping customers in mind.
Being at the top for too long had made Nvidia forget who they were making cards for. They had grown to the mindset they only needed to appease the Shareholders. Out of touch with their consumers and mixed-up priorities have led to many people losing faith in the company. And the recent releases of Graphic cards have only shown them in a more negative light.
What will happen to Nvidia in the future?
At the very best, the company will be bought by someone else, and their best bet would be Microsoft. Though, that is not guaranteed as AMD’s RDNA is doing pretty well, and the company is going to launch RDNA soon. They have an announcement coming up the November of 3rd. As for Nvidia, they are getting maimed by the gaming community, which isn’t going to stop anytime soon.
