In the previous chapter, Maomao was wondering who would take care of Jinshi and thought he was so spoiled he could not even change his clothes. Consort Gyokuyou asked Jinshi if he was heading somewhere to which Jinshi had been invited on a hunt. Maomao was thinking it was a very high society in the way it passed time. Jinshi tells them it was Sir Shi Shou’s invitation; Sir Shi Shou was the consort of Rou Ran’s father as well as a high-ranking official.
It seemed fishy, so Maomao did not want to drag herself into trouble. She realized that if they were going hunting, she would be able to eat fresh deer and rabbit meat. Maomao then decided that if she had a choice, she would choose mooncakes over rabbit meat. Consort Gyokuyou told Jinshi it sounded taxing for whoever will accompany him. Jinshi told her a lot was at stake, and then Consort Gyokuyou asked if he wished to borrow Maomao for that.
Jinshi told her that’s exactly what he wants to do so Maomao needs to return to his palace. Consort Gyokuyou did not want Maomao to leave, so she offered Jinshi many other girls who were ready to serve him. Jinshi was not taking her bait and stayed adamant about borrowing Maomao. Consort Gyokuyou asked Gao Shun what he calls Maomao, and when he answered her, Consort Gyokuyou put the same question to Jinshi.
Jinshi got super uncomfortable with her question, and Maomao did not care about that, but she was confused about his reaction. Later, Consort Gyokuyou permitted Maomao to accompany Jinshi on his hunt, after being thrown around in the carriage for more than half a day, so she ended up accidentally dozing off on her journey.
