Yowamushi Pedal is a sports anime that follows the story of a high school student named Sakamichi Onoda, who is an otaku with a passion for anime and manga. Despite his love for indoor hobbies, Onoda has a hidden talent for cycling and possesses remarkable endurance due to his daily trips to Akihabara on his old shopping bike.
One day, Onoda’s skills catch the attention of his school’s bicycle racing club, which is in danger of being disbanded due to a lack of members. With the goal of saving the club, Onoda joins the team and begins training to become a competitive cyclist.
Onoda quickly realizes that he has a lot to learn about cycling, especially when he meets the team’s captain, Shunsuke Imaizumi, who is a skilled rider and a fierce competitor. Imaizumi initially doubts Onoda’s abilities but soon recognizes his potential and takes him under his wing.
As the team prepares for its first race, it must overcome various obstacles, including rival teams and personal struggles. Along the way, Onoda forms close bonds with his teammates, including the quirky and energetic Junta Teshima, the level-headed Hajime Aoyagi, and the talented climber Manami Sangaku.
The series follows Onoda and his teammates as they compete in races, overcome challenges, and pursue their dreams of becoming professional cyclists. As Onoda continues to develop his skills and passion for cycling, he discovers the joy and thrill of racing and ultimately becomes a key member of the team.
Yowamushi Pedal: Episode 23 Recap
In the previous episode, Manami and Onada are inching closer to the finishing line. The Seniors spectating the match believe that Manami will probably win the match because Manami has suffered through several losses, giving him more than enough willpower to win today.
Unlike Manami, Onada has won time and time again without facing a crushing defeat. Therefore, it is impossible for Onada to understand or have a willpower equivalent to Manami.
Onada’s seniors listen to the spectator’s statement and say that the loss Onada went through is incomprehensible, even to them. Sure, he did not face defeat in a match, but he lost someone he looked up to a lot.
Onada had great respect for one of the seniors and often turned to him for guidance. One day, the senior informs the club that he is leaving and moving to England. This sudden change crushed Onada’s spirit, and it took a long time before he could bike as he did before.
As Onada and Manami are a mere 600 meters away from the finishing line, Onada begins to fall behind Manami. Onada’s pedal became faulty when Manami bumped into his bike from behind, and that’s why he hasn’t been able to keep up with Manami.
The gap begins to widen, and Onada is terrified because if he falls back more than ten meters behind Manami, Manami is sure to cross the finish line before him.
