In the movie, Kevin Bacon & Amanda Seyfried play a married couple whose relationship is in trouble. A slow-burning thriller, You Should Have Left, explores the greater implications of sin, marital conflict, and guilt.
It would be best if you Had Left was adapted from the 2017 book that bears the same name by the writer named Daniel Kehlmann & written and helmed by David Koepp. The plot revolves around the two characters’ glaring age disparity. They check into a property that seems safe to reunite, but as you probably guess, the property is anything but harmless.

What Is the Plot Of You Should Have Left?
Theo Conroy, an affluent banker, played by Kevin Bacon, cannot move past a traumatic—and quite public—event from his past. He is making an effort, as seen by his daughter Ella or Avery Essex, and his significantly younger spouse Susanna or Amanda Seyfried.
But when his jealousy and paranoia grow due to his worries that Susanna will become a successful woman, the couple decides to stay away from Susanna’s filming by leasing a very isolated and, at first glance, charming old house in the countryside of Wales. It turns out that the home has some of its devils that enjoy playing with the devils of its occupants.
It contains inexplicable Polaroids that appear on the wall, disappearing doors, too many electrical outlets, and foodstuff that rots quickly and suspiciously, in addition to being larger on the interior than it looks on the exterior. Theo is tortured by his history, which makes his hallucinations stronger and worse.
It turns out that Theo’s first wife drowned in the bathtub after ingesting too several sleeping drugs to survive. Theo was the prime suspect in a quite publicized murder case, and although he was found not guilty, suspicion still surrounds him.

You Should Have Left Ending Explained
We understood that all of the spirits following Theo were his own and that no other spirits were inhabiting the house. Since time will not move in a straight line within the home, Theo will likely be tormented by himself, resulting in the solution he has been looking for his entire life.
His shame, which he had long suppressed, was the only demon haunting him. He assured everybody, even his wife and children, that he was not responsible for the passing of his first wife. He explains to them that he neither killed nor saved her. He stood by while she died without taking any action.
Theo finds a counterintuitive answer by walking backward. As he leaves the house with his daughter in tow, he keeps the eerie manor in his line of sight the entire time. They cross the street and start to make their way to safety when they suddenly become aware of the building’s light off in the distance.
They can’t seem to escape, or more specifically, Theo can’t. Theo realizes he has no chance. He hands Susanna Ella a bag and instructs them to go, which they do. The home of demons has now acquired one more for its collection, leaving Theo locked inside.
The home is not the subject of all the discourse about departing from the home and leaving messages to alert himself. Theo’s first marriage was something he ought to have ended before it became too late. Perhaps he wouldn’t have gotten into this situation if he had accepted that he and Caroline had too much hatred and bitterness.
When the same cycle begins with Susanna, and she reveals herself to be unfaithful to him, Theo decides that he should also end this relationship. He, therefore, deserts his wife and children, even though he loves them, and takes a position in the misery that is this mansion.
