Fans of Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers can now watch the music video for the anime’s opening theme, “Bad Idenshi” (“Bad Gene”), performed by Japanese music group Dannie May. Released alongside the second cour’s July 7 premiere, the video introduces a fresh soundtrack as the series enters the next stage of its story.

The opening theme arrives as the long-awaited sequel to the 1988 classic Ronin Warriors continues its broadcast. With new battles on the horizon and the return of the legendary Yoroi Gear warriors, the energetic song sets the tone for the anime’s action-packed second half while supporting its ongoing promotional campaign.

Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers is a direct sequel to Sunrise’s 1988 anime Ronin Warriors, bringing the classic franchise back for a new generation of fans. The series premiered in January 2026 and continues the story decades after the original anime.

The sequel follows the return of Arago, the Emperor of Doom, whose ancient promise of revenge begins to unfold once again. As darkness spreads across Shinjuku, five young warriors are called upon to wear the legendary Yoroi Gear armor and protect humanity from a growing supernatural threat.

While the series introduces new characters and modern animation, it stays true to the spirit of the original anime.

New Opening and Ending Themes Mark the Second Cour

The anime’s second cour introduces a completely new musical lineup. Japanese music group Dannie May performs the new opening theme “Bad Idenshi” (“Bad Gene”), while rock band Karanoah takes over ending theme duties with “Bakemon.”

The first cour featured “YOAKE” (“Dawn”) by blank paper as its opening theme and “POWER” by ONE OR EIGHT as its ending. The change in music reflects the beginning of a new story arc as the battle against Arago reaches a more intense stage.

The newly released opening sequence gives fans a first look at the updated visuals accompanying “Bad Idenshi.” Together with the new ending theme, the soundtrack helps establish a fresh atmosphere for the second half of the season.

Sunrise has assembled an experienced production team for the sequel. Yōichi Fujita, best known for directing Gintama and Mr. Osomatsu, leads the project, while Shōgo Mutō oversees the series composition and scripts.

The original story is once again credited to Hajime Yatate, the long-running collective pen name used for many of Sunrise’s original productions. This creative connection helps preserve the identity of the franchise while introducing new ideas.

Several veteran artists are also involved in the production. Yūhei Murota designs the main characters, Tsukasa Kotobuki handles the villain designs, Hideo Okamoto returns to create the Yoroi Gear concepts, and Takuya Suzuki adapts those designs for animation. Shūji Katayama composes the series’ music.

The Cast Expands as the Story Moves Forward

The second cour introduces new characters alongside the returning heroes. One of the biggest additions is Kaede Narumi, commander of the Defense Special Incident Countermeasures Task Force (DST).

Kaede is voiced by Hina Suguta, who joined the cast beginning with Episode 13. Her arrival brings a new leadership figure into the story as humanity responds to Arago’s growing threat.

The expanded cast allows the anime to explore a broader conflict while keeping the focus on the Yoroi Gear warriors and their mission to protect the world.

Where to Watch Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers

International fans can stream Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers on Crunchyroll, where new episodes are released weekly with English subtitles. The service is streaming the anime across North America, Europe, Latin America, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, India, and several other regions.

The sequel is planned as a two-cour series with at least 24 episodes, making the second cour an important part of the story. New episodes continue to build on the conflict introduced earlier in the season.

For viewers interested in the franchise’s history, the original 1988 Ronin Warriors anime and its OVA releases are also available through Discotek Media’s English-subtitled home video releases, offering an easy way to revisit the classic series before following the latest sequel.
