Actress Yeonwoo has stepped away from the upcoming prequel to the hit Korean crime film ‘Inside Men,’ with Park Ju Hyun selected to take over her role.

The casting change was reported on October 29, ahead of the film’s planned production.

Yeonwoo had previously been confirmed to appear in the project.

However, she reached an agreement with the production team not to participate in the film before filming began. No specific reason for her departure was disclosed in the report.

Following Yeonwoo’s exit, the production team searched for a replacement and ultimately cast Park Ju Hyun.

The new project will also continue Park’s professional association with HYBE Media Corp, with whom she has worked on a previous production.

The upcoming film is the official prequel to ‘Inside Men,’ the 2015 crime thriller that explored corruption and collusion among influential figures in politics, business and the media.

Set in the late 1980s, the prequel will examine how the powerful network at the centre of the original story first emerged.

Park Ju Hyun Joins the Prequel’s Cast Following Yeonwoo’s Departure

Park Ju Hyun’s casting comes as the production prepares to bring the origins of the ‘Inside Men’ universe to the big screen.

While details about her specific character have not been revealed in the report, her addition completes the replacement following Yeonwoo’s decision to leave the project.

Park has established herself through roles in Korean television dramas and films, including ‘Extracurricular,’ ‘Mouse,’ ‘Zombie Detective’ and ‘Love All Play.’

Her performances across different genres have helped her build a varied acting portfolio.

The film already features a prominent ensemble led by Ha Jung Woo, Ahn Bo Hyun, Park Hae Joon and Jung Sung Il.

Each actor will portray a character connected to the formation of the power structure explored in the original ‘Inside Men.’

Ha Jung Woo will play Lee Kang Hee, a newspaper reporter who dreams of exposing corporate corruption but finds himself pushed aside.

His character eventually becomes a key figure in the creation of the powerful cartel.

Ahn Bo Hyun will portray a younger version of An Sang Gu, the character originally played by Lee Byung Hun in the 2015 film.

Park Hae Joon will take on the role of Jang Pil Woo, a first-term lawmaker who previously worked as a prosecutor before entering politics.

Jung Sung Il will also appear in the film, adding to the ensemble at the centre of the prequel’s story.

Together, the characters will explore the relationships and ambitions that contribute to the rise of the influential network.

‘Inside Men’ Prequel Explores the Origins of a Powerful Cartel

Produced by HYBE Media Corp and SLL, the upcoming film will revisit the world introduced in ‘Inside Men’ while shifting the timeline to the late 1980s.

The story focuses on the connections between media organisations, financial power and political influence, tracing the beginnings of the cartel that shapes the original film’s events.

The 2015 movie, directed by Woo Min Ho and starring Lee Byung Hun, Cho Seung Woo and Baek Yoon Sik, became a major success in South Korea.

Its depiction of corruption and power struggles resonated with audiences, establishing the film as a notable entry in Korean crime cinema.

The prequel will be co-directed by Kim Min Bum, who worked as an assistant director on ‘12.12: The Day,’ and Kim Jin Seok, who has screenplay adaptation credits on films including ‘Harbin,’ ‘The Man Standing Next’ and ‘Veteran.’

By exploring the history behind the original film’s power network, the new project aims to provide additional context for the characters and conflicts that audiences encountered in ‘Inside Men.’

Meanwhile, Yeonwoo continues her acting activities on television.

The former MOMOLAND member is currently appearing in tvN’s drama ‘My Guilty Human,’ playing Lee Hye Jung, a chairman’s secretary, opposite Kim Jung Hyun.

With Park Ju Hyun now joining the prequel, attention will turn to the production’s next steps and further casting details.

The film’s late-1980s setting and ensemble of established actors position it as an expansion of the story first introduced in the 2015 original.
