The next One Piece movie is set to do something no major franchise film has done before: tell a story without Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates at its center. Announced during ONE PIECE DAY ’26, One Piece Film: God Valley will arrive in Japanese theaters in summer 2027, with One Piece Film: Baad following in 2029. The official One Piece Film: God Valley website confirmed both projects.
What makes God Valley particularly significant is its subject matter. Rather than telling another standalone adventure featuring Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and the rest of the crew, the movie will adapt one of the most important historical events in the One Piece world.
The God Valley Incident takes place decades before the main events of One Piece and brings together some of the most legendary figures in the franchise’s history. The story involves Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Garp, Rocks D. Xebec, Whitebeard, Big Mom, Kaido, and several other major figures whose actions helped shape the pirate world.
One Piece Film: God Valley will adapt the flashback storyline connected to the ongoing Elbaph arc. The project is especially notable because it will be released during the manga’s 30th anniversary celebrations in 2027.
Unlike previous theatrical One Piece adventures, however, the God Valley story does not naturally revolve around the Straw Hats. Unless the filmmakers introduce a new framing device or original material, Luffy and his crew could have little to no role in the movie.
That makes the project a major departure for the franchise. The previous One Piece films have consistently used Luffy and the Straw Hats as their main characters, even when introducing original villains, locations, and stories. God Valley, by contrast, appears to be placing the franchise’s wider history above its usual protagonists.
