Wonyoung, a member of IVE, is currently bringing joy and laughter to the internet following her amusing reaction to internet slang during a Teen Vogue segment. On May 21, 2024, IVE participated in Teen Vogue’s “Compliment Battle,” where the members read complimentary tweets to each other.
At the 1:03 mark of the video, Wonyoung encountered a tweet praising Gaeul’s rap skills. The tweet included a “Keyboard Smash” slang, which puzzled Wonyoung. She read each letter out loud, leading to a hilariously confused reaction.
The tweet from user @autumnjiwon on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) read, “Gaeul’s rap AJFKSKFKSKCKSKF her vocals, it’s so clear, I love it so much, I’m f**king crying, she sounds so good.”
Wonyoung, puzzled by the keyboard smash, remarked, “Huh? What does this mean?” and proceeded to read, “Gaeul’s rap ‘AJFKSKFKSKCKSKF’?” This confusion drew similarly puzzled reactions from her fellow members and Gaeul herself, who asked, “What might that mean?”
Wonyoung’s reaction quickly went viral, with many netizens and DIVEs (IVE’s fanbase) finding her unfamiliarity with the slang endearing and amusing.
Her reaction showcased how “Chronically Offline” is a term netizen use to describe her lack of familiarity with common online expressions. Social media users on X shared their amusement, further spreading the laughter.
In a separate update, Starship Entertainment issued an official statement regarding enhanced security measures for Wonyoung. On May 9, the agency announced its plans to improve safety for Wonyoung in response to threats.
A representative from Starship Entertainment stated, “In order to ensure the safety of our artists, we have reinforced our security personnel and are re-evaluating safety procedures for their travel routes, including the office building and accommodation.”
