Wolf is a BBC One crime thriller series starring Iwan Rheon, Sacha Dhawan, Owen Teale, and Juliet Stevenson. It is a 1990s period piece that features elements of terror, torture, murder, and psychological plays.
Wolf is based upon the characters developed by Mo Hayder in his Jack Caffery novels. This serial debuted in late July and managed to get quite some traction because of its compelling and chilling story, impeccable performances, and conclusion that might have left many a viewer wondering what became of these people after such gruesome events took place.
Today, I plan to explain my interpretation of the events that Wolf BBC depicts; I will do so by including some important plot spoilers that might ruin the fun for many of you, so if you haven’t seen the series, first watch the program and then return. Moreover, this series contains topics of torture, murder, and harm that some people might find sensitive, so reader discretion is advised.
Wolf BBC Premise
Wolf is a six-part miniseries that takes us between London and Wales in the 1990s. Its soundtrack is amazingly immersive, and the filmmakers went to great lengths to deliver a compelling story that is both scary as well as deeply psychological in its nature.
Wolf’s serial development —story-wise— is bizarre and perplexing. At the beginning of the series, we are presented with a wealthy family whose world goes upside down the moment Honey —Sacha Dhawan— and Molina —Iwan Rheon— break into their home and take them hostage.
That’s when Detective Inspector Jack Caffrey —Ukweli Roach— comes in handy, but as it turns out, he’s got his hands on another case called the Donkey Pitch Murders, and the man is also pondering about what happened to his brothers in the 1990s.
Who Are The Donkey Pitch Killers?
While Minnet Kable confesses to killing minors Hugo and Sophie, DI Lincoln tells Jack that she let Kable confess despite knowing he had a plausible explanation since he had previously confessed to being a pedophile to her.
Jack continues to look into the killings despite knowing this, and he learns from Bones that Hugo and Sophie had previously tortured a girl. Lucia Anchor-Ferrers, who is presently being held prisoner by Molina and Honey, was this girl.
She has been complicit the entire time; therefore, she isn’t truly being held captive. When Lucia’s parents committed her to a psychiatric hospital after she murdered a kitten, that’s when she first encountered Molina. She joined forces with Molina to exact revenge on Hugo and Sophie after she was let out.
In order to take control of the family fortune that would have gone to her brother in the case that her parents passed away, Lucia and Molina concocted the entire hostage-taking plot. As we saw in the series, Molina and Honey tried to get Lucia’s dad to transfer money from his bank account because of that.
Jack is able to connect the wedding ring to Oliver and Matilda Anchor-Ferrers after learning that Lucia was the young woman that Hugo and Sophie mistreated. When Lucia reveals her true colors, he arrives at the house just in time to see Oliver suffer a heart attack and pass away.
By posing as Lucia’s brother, Molina tries to confuse Jack, but Jack recognizes the lie, and after a struggle, Jack murders Molina.
Lucia poses as innocent, scared of Jack, and prepared to leap out the window when he goes upstairs to look for her. Her mask does eventually come off, but while she is gloating, she stumbles and dies.
When Oliver wrote that Lucia had no alibi on the night of the Donkey Pitch killings, Jack came across that note. However, Jack destroys the message and any other evidence connecting Lucia and Molina to the killings in order to put Kable behind bars.

Wolf Ending Explained
By the time we see the final scene, we come to realize that over the years, Ivan Pendercki played Jack some mind games with some toys that he says belonged to his brother.
So when Jack gets another one of the toys, which Pendercki claims belonged to Ewan, Jack has it checked by the cops, and the cops find out a fingerprint of his brother.
Who Killed Ewan?
Across the series, the plot’s narrative leads us to think that Ewan —Jack’s brother— was killed by Ivan Penderecki, his neighbor who was never charged with that crime, but something in the back of Jack’s mind tells him that Ivan is the culprit.
In the series, we’re led to believe that Ewan died sometime in 1998, but the toy’s manufacture date coincided with the early 2000s, and that means that Ewan disappeared and was alive for many years. At the same time, Jack isn’t aware of this yet.
In a flashback scene, we find out that when Ewan went missing, Jack went to Pendercki’s basement and saw a shadow that spooked him and left the premises, leading us to think that poor Ewan was locked up in a basement for years. And while we don’t know if Ewan died to Pendercki or whether he’s still alive, the question lingers.
