The Rings of Power season 2 is already in production, but it won’t be released for a while. The popularity of long-form fantasy Tv series has been shown by the impact that Game of Thrones has had on the television business. The Rings of Power, produced by Amazon Studios and based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s notes and appendix, is one of the top contenders to fill the void left after the end of Game of Thrones.
The events of The Rings of Power are set thousands of years before those of The Lord of the Rings in the Second Age of Middle-earth. The Prime Video show effectively tells the backstory of the 20 rings—19 of which are dispersed among the many races and the evil One Ring, which Sauron pushed to assert its rule over them all—that would ultimately determine the fate of Middle-earth.
The first season of The Rings of Power acted as a sort of “mystery box,” focused on individuals that appeared to be original but whose real identities were firmly rooted in Tolkien’s lore. Now that those mysteries have been revealed, The Rings of Power will enter one of Middle-earth’s thrilling eras in season 2.
Will There Be The Rings Of Power Season 2?
Yes, there will be The Rings of Power Season 2. Production on The Rings of Power season 2 has officially started, although the Amazon Studios show has shifted from New Zealand to the UK. Given that Tolkien was “writing within his own backyard,” according to showrunner Patrick McKay, it felt natural to shoot in that area. It wouldn’t have felt appropriate to do it elsewhere.
He continued, “Suffice to say, travel to foreign nations is a major recurring topic in the book and in Tolkien’s world. In light of this, the fact that The Rings of Power season 1 ended with the Stranger—clearly Gandalf—traveling to the east to the previously unexplored territories of Rhûn may be a sign that the majority of the plot will take place there.
The Rings Of Power Season 2 Release Date
However, it’s possible that viewers won’t be able to visit Middle-earth too early. McKay said that season 2 of The Rings of Power could require “another two years” of development. Compared to season 1, which was hampered by the coronavirus pandemic, this is already an improvement. The show takes place on an enormous scale which will take time to create, so hopefully, Amazon won’t decide to scale back on the extravagant visual effects, which also will take a lot of time to create as well.
The first season of The Rings of Power alone cost an astounding $462 million, making it the most costly TV show ever produced. But because of its apparent success, we can only hope that season 2 will receive the same amount of attention and money.
The Rings Of Power Season 2 Cast
The cast of The Rings of Power season 2 is set to include a number of new actors. There have been rumors that Cirdan, an Elven lord who serves as one of the Guardians/Keepers of the Three Rings, is needed for the Amazon TV series.
Galadriel’s revelation in season 1, episode 7, that her husband had indeed been murdered, which seems to be a major deviation from Tolkien canon, also sparked questions. Galadriel’s simple statement that it was the last time she had ever seen him made the dialogue in that scene very interesting. It’s probable that Morgoth attempted to manipulate Celeborn, Galadriel’s husband, in the same way he twisted at least one other Elf, Adar, for his own purposes.
Beyond this, it wouldn’t come as a shock if season two of The Rings of Power began to feature characters who would eventually become Nazgûl. It’s possible that Gandalf and Nori would encounter that specific future Ringwraith on their way east since Tolkien called one of Nazgûl “Khamûl The Easterling” It will be interesting to see how this story is told because the journey east is certain to bring a number of unique characters.
The Rings Of Power Season 2 Plot
Second Age Middle-earth will be further explored in The Rings of Power season 2. The three elven rings were finally forged at the end of Season 1, but there was a significant twist: it appears that, contrary to Tolkien’s literature, mithril is the key to creating the rings.
More mithril will be needed to forge more rings, so the ongoing saga of Khazad-dûm and the Balrog that lies beneath the mines will undoubtedly be important. Tolkien never truly explored the lands of Rhûn, so Gandalf’s journey there gives the showrunner and writers a lot of freedom.
There have been few confirmed storyline elements. However, there have been rumors of a major, two-episode-long battle sequence. It’s possible that Sauron, whose identity has been made known and who is expected to gain control of the Orcs in Mordor, will be the one to start this.
Sauron’s Arc
Even though production on The Rings of Power season 2 has just begun, it will probably be some time before the writers and Amazon Prime provide any precise hints about Sauron’s plot. But because the Amazon TV series’ five-season strategy has already been mapped out by the creative team, Sauron’s entire story arc is at least already set up as the series proceeds.
It would be interesting to see how far they will take the deadly villain since this is the first live-action Lord of the Rings production to fully explore Sauron. Even though there may be a long wait before The Rings of Power season 2 premieres, hopefully, additional information regarding Sauron’s upcoming story will be revealed sooner rather than later.
The end of The Rings of Power season 1 finale was fairly confusing when it came to the very last scene of Sauron. Sauron returns to Mordor in the final few seconds, now in charge as its king and pursuing his wider ambition of governing all of Middle-earth. The three elven Rings of Power were created because one of Sauron’s expectations was for other characters to still be struggling with Halbrand’s betrayal.
The villain will undoubtedly start to build up his forces in The Rings of Power season 2 now that Vickers’ character is out of hiding and aware that Galadriel is chasing Sauron.
Sauron’s Power
In the season one finale of The Rings of Power, the Nomad, Dweller, and Ascetic still believe their mystery Stranger is Sauron, and they immediately believe that his real Maiar powers haven’t entirely returned. Does that rule still hold true for Halbrand, even though they’re referring to the entirely wrong person?
The Rings of Power episode 8 does not provide an answer, but if Sauron is not yet fully developed, he is undoubtedly well on his way to becoming so. The blade attack from Galadriel is successfully blocked, and Sauron uses magic to transform the Elf into a mental illusion.
Sauron has plenty of power in The Rings of Power because Celebrimbor, who is hardly an idiot, is also nearly instantly enchanted by Halbrand. However, the villain’s reliance on deceiving others may be a sign that he hasn’t yet reached the peak of power he attained prior to the fall of Morgoth in the First Age.
Over a span of centuries, Sauron appears to have been gradually recovering strength after losing the War of Wrath and experiencing Adar’s betrayal. He can shape-shift, engage in battle, and cast spells once more thanks to the Rings of Power, but Sauron’s real potential likely extends far beyond.
Sauron In Mordor
The first season of The Rings of Power finishes with Sauron making his formal appearance in Mordor. Before establishing himself as the sole Lord of Mordor, he must first reach an agreement with Adar, who was last seen considering a name for his new Orc-realm. Season 2 will also feature the creation of the One Ring and the beginnings of Barad-dûr, Sauron’s renowned dark tower from The Lord of the Rings if The Rings of Power is true to Tolkien lore.
As previously mentioned, Sauron’s plan is still in its early stages because only 3 of the 19 Rings of Power were created by the end of Season 1. That might result in Sauron leaving Mordor and entering Eregion as “Annatar” in season two of The Rings of Power.
Alternatively, maybe the Dark Lord’s Elven trickery is over, and the Amazon show will move on to Sauron and the Elves’ war. Whatever happens, simply being aware of Sauron’s identity forces the legendary The Lord of the Rings villain to assume a more prominent part in season 2 of The Rings of Power.
