The Order’s second season was exactly the kind of emotional rollercoaster we’ve grown to expect from the show. The Netflix original series has won over fans with its innovative take on time-honored ideas like secret societies, werewolves, and magic, as well as a hearty serving of horror and supernatural drama. The series centers on the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose, a magical secret organization, the Knights of Saint Christopher, a group of werewolves, and Jack Morton, a young Belgrave University student caught in the middle of it all as he keeps learning that his family is much more closely associated with the black arts than he could have imagined.
Season 2 raises the stakes for the show with an intriguing plot, a persistent conflict between two werewolves who are competing to win Jack as their champion, and a ton of odd subplots. Furthermore, it leaves us in such an intriguing position that we are left wondering what will happen when a third season premieres. We will go through The Order season 3’s release date, cast, and plot.
The Order Season 2 Recap
Despite helping the Order in seizing control of Edward Coventry, the Knights of Saint Christopher were stripped of their memories by the Order at the end of Season 1. The four of them are still having trouble with their memories when the second season begins. They are forced to forget once more right when their flashbacks begin to appear. Each of them is given a monitor for this purpose, who has ingratiated themselves into their life. Thus, in the new order of things, Jack and Gabrielle are dating, Lilith likes Nicole, and Randall & Hamish each have a handler.
Vera Stone has taken over as the new Grand Magus, while Alyssa has advanced to the rank of Magistratus. The problem emerges when the Knights develop a resistance to the magic powder and their flashbacks increase. Vera considers killing them to end the situation, but Alyssa talks her out of it. Belgrave University’s campus becomes tenser when a rogue wizard begins brutally murdering unlucky students.
Will There Be Season 3 Of The Order?
Sadly there won’t be Season 3 Of The Order. The Order was one of the shows in a line of 2020 cancellations that Netflix made following season 2. In November 2020, the streaming service formally ended the horror series, which inevitably disappointed fans and sparked an inevitable petition to save the show. But the most enduring shows require more than just great reviews and devoted fans, as Netflix has proven over the years. Fans of The Order, one of Netflix’s promising shows, will have to settle for its first two seasons after the cancellation of a third season. The second season of The Order debuted in June 2020 after its spring 2019 debut.
Jack’s adventures have sadly come to an end, and Heaton expressed his disappointment about the show’s cancellation on Twitter. Heaton tweeted, “I had the joy of working on The Order for Netflix for two seasons with an amazing cast and crew. “One of my best professional experiences to date. We aren’t going back, which is unfortunate, but I will always treasure the memories and the props I stole. I appreciate your involvement.”
In addition to withholding viewership stats from the general public, Netflix hasn’t given a clear explanation for canceling The Order. The data, however, shows that Netflix didn’t think it would be worthwhile to carry the horror show for more than a second season. High-profile series like The Crown, Stranger Things, and Ozark are the exceptions to the rule that it’s relatively uncommon for a drama to be approved for a third season. Netflix has shown over the past few years that drama shows need to be global phenomena in order to last longer than two seasons. Even a well-liked series like David Fincher’s Mindhunter has been canceled because the streaming statistics are insufficient to cover the costs of production.
So why precisely did Netflix cancel The Order before it could wrap up its plot? The platform doesn’t simply explain these decisions, however, we can make some strong guesses about the reasons Netflix axed The Order ahead of season 3.

Why Was The Order Season 3 Canceled?
Netflix is very secretive about why it keeps some shows and cancels others, but it’s also clear why popular smash shows like Stranger Things, The Crown, and The Umbrella Academy survive for such a long time. In a September 2020 interview, writer Alex Lee stated that most Netflix shows get two seasons to prove themselves before being canceled, which is precisely what happened to The Order. According to Lee, among other things, Netflix would be better off investing in a new project than committing to one that might not be doing well with viewers. He also quotes Netflix’s belief that low-viewership shows won’t attract new viewers after a few seasons.
The Order’s downfall could also be due to the COVID-19 impact. Netflix canceled shows like I Am Not Okay With This and The Society in August 2020, after both had previously received renewals. According to reports, the streaming service was concerned about unsure production schedules, unforeseen budget increases because of COVID-19, and the cast’s availability. Given the ensemble cast and the rise of Coronavirus cases that year across the United States, the same considerations apply to The Order. It’s possible that Netflix had a third and final season in the works but ultimately decided to focus its resources elsewhere.
Who Would Have Been The Cast Of The Order Season 3?
Yes, The Order Season 3 is canceled, but let’s just say for some reason Netflix revives it, then who will be returning for season 3. The protagonist of the story and current protector of the werewolf Silverback, Jack Morton, is the center of attention in The Order. Knowing this, it’s a safe guess that Jake Manley, the actor, will reprise the part for season 3, maybe starting the next season with a drastically different hair color this time.
Most likely, the show’s champions of the many werewolves, including Randall Carpio (Adam DiMarco), Hamish Duke (Thomas Elms), Gabrielle Dupres (Louriza Tronco), and the recently demonic Lilith Bathory, played by Devery Jacobs, will also make an appearance. Grand magus Vera Stone, played by Katharine Isabelle, and Nicole Birch, played by Anesha Bailey, can also return. Additionally, there will undoubtedly be some fresh faces, and of course, any character that is still alive could make an appearance. Even dead characters aren’t completely out of the question in this drama about dark magic.
Speaking of dead characters, Alyssa Drake’s comeback was surrounded by a huge question mark in 2020. After all, she appeared to die at the teeth of Midnight the werewolf in the season 2 finale of “New World Order, Part 2.” Will this mean that she will never return to the show? Dennis Heaton, the creator of The Order, was very insistent about the certainty of Alyssa’s death during the Comic-Con@Home 2020 panel. After revisiting Alyssa’s last scene, he responded as follows when asked if she was actually dead: “Naturally, she is. A werewolf killed the victim. Her throat had been cut. When werewolves rip out their necks, people die.”
We believe Heaton speaks overly, for what it’s worth, There could be some smart double talk going on here. Even if Alyssa is actually dead from her werewolf wounds, she might be magically recovered. We might just find out if this was the original plan if the show is ever renewed for a third season.
What Would Have Happened In The Order Season 3 Plot?
There are plenty of compelling storylines to follow in The Order season 3. After ripping Alyssa’s neck open in the season 2 finale, Jack’s old werewolf hide, Midnight, is slated to open the season as a full-on villain. Since Gabrielle was basically possessed by Midnight, it’s likely that she’s not too pleased with this development either. As for Jack, he was last seen walking into the woods with Alyssa’s wounded body and the Vade Maecum Infernal, a very potent magical tome. Is he about to unleash its virtually infinite power in the pursuit of resurrection? Will Alyssa come back the same if he succeeds? Now that she has access to the powerful Foris Factorum invocation season 2, what will she do?
Season 3 will have a number of additional challenges to address, in addition to maybe using the most powerful magic the series has ever seen and coping with its unavoidable consequences. Vera, the grand magus, is currently without electricity. Lilith, who spent a major amount of season two chained to Hell, is now a demon. It will be interesting to see how they handle their personal cases and what obstacles lie in wait for them and the other characters.
