In the opening credits of Bravo’s ‘The Real Housewives of New York City’ reboot, premiering Sunday, Sai De Silva boldly claims, ‘In New York, there’s a lot of bad apples. But I’m the saddest of the bunch.’ However, a conversation with the content creator-turned-reality star reveals a softer and more vulnerable side to her personality, contrary to what her tagline may suggest.
TheWrap had the opportunity to speak with De Silva before the Season 14 premiere, featuring a fresh group of women. De Silva is the first new housewife introduced, inviting viewers into her Brooklyn brownstone.
For longtime fans of the show, it’s worth noting that original cast member Alex McCord was the only previous housewife to reside in the borough, as the show was initially called ‘Manhattan Moms.’ These changes signify just the beginning of the transformations in store.”
Sai De Silva opens up on a diverse cast of women.
Before filming, none of us were best friends. We were all familiar with each other through our overlapping social circles in New York City. It’s interesting how in a city that seems so vast, the circles we operate in are quite small, especially in our industry.
Given that three of us work in fashion, we have naturally crossed paths and share mutual friends. However, since we embarked on the intense filming journey and spent a significant amount of time together, our bond has grown immensely.
The dazzling new cast in the fourteenth series of the “RHONY” includes Jessel Taank, Ubah Hassan, Erin Dana Lichy, Jenna Lyons, and Brynn Whitfield, apart from De Silva herself.

Sai De Silva over having any concerns about joining ‘RHONY’?
I highly value my privacy and personal life. While I am someone who maintains an online presence, I carefully curate what I share, allowing only what I want to be seen. As a result, aspects involving my family, especially my husband, are not often visible.
Therefore, I do feel a bit nervous about opening up my world to scrutiny. Having my life on display means that people can say anything they want. However, I am also incredibly excited about this opportunity.
Speaking of family, in the opening scene, we meet two children, London and Rio. The story behind their names is quite special to me. If I didn’t live in New York, I would love London. I adore the British people for their humor, wit, sarcasm, and love for enjoying life. You can’t go wrong with the Brits.
When my daughter was born, I knew her name had to be London. Her middle name Scout was inspired by “To Killa Mockingbird.” That moment marked the beginning of my entire brand.
When I became pregnant with our son, my husband happened to be in Rio on Father’s Day. I called him and excitedly told him about the pregnancy.
I’ve always loved the name Rio, so it made perfect sense. Normally, I prefer to wait until I see my child before deciding on a name. I had a few options in mind, but as soon as I saw him, I knew he was a Rio.

Regarding the rest of my family, it’s quite large. My husband is close with my family, and we have many women in our clan. I am the first cousin to have a boy, which caused some concern among my relatives about carrying on our last name. However, we Silvas are strong, so I decided to give my son my last name.
We are a coe-knit bunch. There’s always salsa music playing in the kitchen, and someone is usually enjoying a beer while cooking rice and beans. We all get along well, but my husband can only handle us in small doses.
We are highly opinionated and loud, especially during mealtime when we may say things like, “I don’t want this” or “I don’t want that.” He can only handle so much. Nevertheless, we have a humorous dynamic in our family. We enjoy teasing and joking with each other, all in good fun and with lots of love.
