What was initially introduced as the villain in the Marvel comics is now loved by fans for his antihero tendencies. Deadpool‘s character is said to have appeared in the Marvel universe way back in 1990 in the then-newly released New Mutants #98 comic book. The character has since then transformed immensely and is now the guy that does the right thing while still hating it.
The trait characteristics of Deadpool have to be his ruined face, assassin background, superhuman abilities to heal quickly, and annoyingly great humor, especially in high-pressure situations. The character was present in the background in a lot of X-Men movies until they finally landed his own first movie with the same name as the character, Deadpool, in 2016.
For the portrayal of the character in the movies, actor Ryan Reynolds was cast. He revealed to have developed an interest and liking for the character of Deadpool after the release of Marvel’s Deadpool-based comic book series titled Cable & Deadpool. It has to be mentioned that Deadpool’s character originated when Wade Wilson, the guy who took the alias Deadpool, was forcefully turned into an experiment by some guy who he hunts in the first Deadpool movie.
Ever since Ryan was confirmed for the role, it was almost confirmed that the movie would be a success. His character has become quite famous among fans for being unlike other Marvel characters. His character is appreciated for his constant raw commentary on how much he hates the “superhero gig” and also for breaking the fourth wall and connecting with the audience in the hilarious ways possible.
So, why is it that a character so popular and loved, with so much potential for growth, has not been directly involved or even name-dropped in the Avengers movies? Why is it that from the first Iron Man movie till the release of the Endgame movie, fans did not even get to see a small interaction between these two worlds?
Deadpool’s Absence From The Avengers Films?
While fans have their own bunch of theories as to why their beloved antihero is not being included in the Avengers movie, there is an actual, very official reason for this. Many fans of the franchise strongly believe that Deadpool will mix so well with the already-settled Avengers characters, like Shuri or even Star-Lord. The amount of hilarious footage Marvel could get their hands on after putting Deadpool together with all these characters would be ridiculously large.
But sadly, till now, Marvel has made no such move, forcing even Ryan Reynolds to take his disappointment to Twitter. When the Avengers: Infinity War blew up and left the audience shaken and going back to the theatre only to rewatch what they had just seen, Ryan Reynolds congratulated the team for performing so well.
While the post seemed normal on the surface, the actor had attached a photograph of what looked like an official document, which was apparently a notice signed by the Avengers main character Tony Stark himself, rejecting Deadpool’s entry into the Avengers clique.
While this was just a silly joke, it still managed to express the actor’s actual disappointment at not being able to be a part of the Avengers shenanigans. The real reason why Marvel cannot include or even mention Deadpool in its own Avengers movies is that many years back, when Marvel was not what it is right now, it had decided to sell the on-screen rights of a lot of its characters to other production houses.
This means that due to certain regulatory laws and policies, Marvel did not have the right to produce and claim Deadpool as its own because it did not possess the right to do so, having sold it to Fox Media. They lacked a legal license to do anything with the character, even though the character was originally created under the Marvel company’s name.
This also meant that unless Fox decided to collaborate with Disney or unless Disney finally bought the rights to the character from Fox, fans would not have been able to see the character interact with the Avengers in any way or form. Deadpool would have to continue its solo movies, and Marvel and Disney would have to continue producing movies without Deadpool—a sad state of affairs for both parties and the fans.
But with the news of Disney acquiring Fox, a small hope has been lightened for fans who now eagerly wait for news of Deadpool finally entering the Avengers universe.
