After almost three decades of creative collaborations, the New Order band broke up. They wanted to influence the way music was played in their era and almost start a new era of music. Some of their very famous albums are “Movement,” “Power, Corruption & Lies,” and “Technique.” These gave them a very loyal fan base.
Peter Hook’s unexpected departure from the band indicated a rift between the members, and fans were equally upset. Hook’s absence from the band was always felt, and his crazy unique basslines were missed by fans. It was a void created by him that no one could ever fill. His absence ultimately contributed to a sense of loss of nostalgia, and the band lost quite a bit of its fanbase.
Peter Hook is a renowned musician. He is very talented and one of the most famous guitar bassists of the present era. He deserves all the fame he has gained due to his unique playing style. Peter Hook is recognized for his melodic bass lines and unique playing style. He has a completely different genre which helped him stand out in a very competitive field of music.
Who is Peter Hook?
Hook first gained popularity when he became a member of Joy Division, a band that was very popular in its era. The lead singer of the band was Ian Curtis. After his tragic and painful death, the remaining members of the band regrouped to form a newer band by the name of New Order.
Peter was also a part of this newly formed band. While Hook was a part of the Joy Division band, his contributions were great. He earned a lot of praise and acclaim, especially for his bassline performances in the popular albums, “Unknown Pleasures” and “Closer.” The newly formed band New Order has several popular members alongside Peter Hook, like Bernard Summer and Stephen Morris.
Why did Hook leave New Order?
New Order’s music was exceptional and had a genre-defying element to it. They were more of a trendsetter band than a trend follower. Tensions began to creep into the band set up in the late 2000s. The main cause of the rift in the band is believed to be the legal dispute over the ownership of the band’s name. There were certain royalties generated over the band’s name, New Order.
As the band gained more popularity, each member of the band felt the need to gain more share in the band and be more important. There were several disputes which got ugly over time. Peter Hook later said that due to these disputes and his not gaining what he deserved, he felt marginalized and undervalued.
There is another information source that says that Peter was also pretty dissatisfied with where the band was heading. He wanted to be completely raw on stage. He was completely against the use of pre-recorded tracks and other kinds of backing music while the band performed on stage. He feared that it might hamper the band’s image, which stood for originality and creativity.
Peter Hook took another step in the year 2007 to preserve the originality of his music by forming a side bad, Peter Hook and The Light, that performed Joy Division’s and New Order’s songs. The fans absolutely loved the new band, but this caused more tensions within the New Order setup. The band members did not appreciate this initiative of Peter Hook, and the rift ultimately got uglier.
It was these factors that finally led to Peter Hook announcing in the year 2009 that he was separating from the New Order band. There were public statements from all ends, and it got worse when legal battles were fought. The already disheartened fans were upset even more from the aftermath of Peter Hook quitting the band.
