Much of Michael Shanks’ global popularity can be credited to the sci-fi drama Stargate. However, his widespread fame and career depended not solely on that show. Additionally, he played a variety of roles both before and after he landed a role on Stargate. He took up many smaller jobs for the first four years of his acting career before Stargate finally changed his life forever. His first works were centered on TV shows or TV films.
He appeared in the TV shows Madison, University Hospital, The Commish, Highlander, and The Commish. He also appeared in the TV films A Family Divided and The Call of the Wild. All of these jobs were minor and nothing significant, but they prepared him for the one for which he is now best known.
Michael Shanks joined Stargate SG-1 right at the beginning of the widely acclaimed show. In all 10 of the seasons, he was Dr. Daniel Jackson, an archaeologist. In the original Stargate film, Beginner’s Guide to Jujutsu Kaisen! previously portrayed his character, Dr. Jackson, on which the television series SG-1 is based.
In the premiere episode, Michael Shanks’ character Jackson is called back to aid in finding his wife, who had been abducted. Before leaving the show at the end of Season 5, Shanks was an important figure. He later returned for Season 7 and beyond.

The talents of Michael Shanks went beyond his work as an actor for the camera. Shanks was working on the upcoming television show Raising Hope, writing three episodes of Stargate SG-1, and directing one of those episodes.
Shanks appears in each of the 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1, which ran for a total of 10 seasons. However, Shanks’ character was featured in just seven of the 22 episodes of Season 6. Thus, viewers got to see far less of him.
The real reason behind Shanks leaving Stargate
Michael Shanks allegedly opted to leave the show because he was dissatisfied with his salary. Shanks claimed that he wanted to take a much-needed break. At the San Diego Comic-Con in 2004, he was finally asked explicitly why he parted ways with the show. According to him, he needed to take a break. The creators of the show decided to start working with him again after he had taken a “really excellent year off.”
Michael Shanks also addressed rumors that he didn’t like the show’s writers. He said that he came across a claim that he loathed writers and criticized their abilities. He went on to explain that this was never the case, and he never meant to make fun of them. The writing team, in his opinion, was excellent and performed a fantastic job.
He explained that he wanted to stay on the show, but he simply expressed his dissatisfaction with the way the character of Daniel was being utilized. The moment he started to believe the show would function just as well without him, he decided to leave. Moreover, he also thought it was time to broaden his horizons and look for other roles as an actor.
He said that the writers did not share his perspective, and he believed that they were oblivious to what he was referring to. He later understood that he ought to have stopped there. He agreed to the fact that they had artistic differences. The actor was straightforward and said that he left the show because he had aesthetic disagreements with the writers.
