Why Did Meisner leave the Eagles? American musician and songwriter Randy Meisner formed the band named The Eagles, along with Don Felder, Glenn Frey, and Bernie Leadon, in 1971.
Meisner went on to be the bassist and even sang some of the biggest hits of the band, including Eagles, Hotel California, Desperado, On The Border, and One of These Nights. He is also credited to have co-written the band’s smash hit, Take It to the Limit.
However, Meisner was excluded from their reunion tour in 1994, but he was later seen once again beside the band in 1998 for their New York City induction ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Randy Meisner eventually refused to rejoin for a world tour in 2013 due to his ongoing health issues. Let us find out why Did Meisner leave the Eagles.
Why Did Meisner Leave The Eagles?
It seems like the late artist wanted to stay away from the limelight as much as possible; as Take It to the Limit went on to become a huge hit, it placed Meisner in the center of the spotlight, and it seemingly did not sit well with the artist.
In an early interview, Meisner admitted that he has always been kind of shy while revealing that the band wanted him to stand in the middle of the stage to sing ‘Take It to the Limit,’ but he rather wanted to be out of the spotlight.
The band’s touring life got hectic with the release of Hotel California. This is when Meisner’s equation with his fellow bandmates started to deteriorate, and it was finally during a 1977 concert in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1977, that Meisner finally decided that he had enough and needed to leave.
Meisner recalled how they were being called back for another encore, and he refused as he was too sick and fed up and decided to go out. Things took a violent turn when the bandmates got into a physical fight after Meisner’s refused to go back on the stage. Although he managed to finish out the tour with the band, it was his last show with the bans, and he decided not to be a part of the Eagles.
Meisner went on to admit that he really felt like he was a member of the group, but not a part of it, while further revealing that the whole thing started to fall apart when they started taking separate limos. Despite the differences, Meisner later rejoined the band for their 1998 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction performance.
