Who Are The Eagles?

There have been certain bands in the history of the music industry that have completely redefined a particular style and genre of music. One of them, undoubtedly, is the Eagles. The Eagles is an American rock band that was formed in Los Angeles, California back in 1971. In fact, 2021 marks the 50th-year anniversary of the band. In 1998, the Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Later, in 2004, the band ranked 75th on Rolling Stone Magazine’s ‘100 Greatest Artists of All Time’. It happened after two members threatened each other with physical violence in front of a live concert audience. It is the first time in the history of music that such a tragedy has happened. And especially to one of the biggest rock bands to have ever existed in the world. Read on to find out what exactly happened.

Why Did The Eagles Break Up?

Back in 1976, The Eagles released their record-breaking album Hotel California. Post the album’s ricocheting success, there was increasing pressure on the band to follow up Hotel California with equally successful music. However, this undue pressure did not sit well with the band’s creativity. It led to the follow-up album being dragged on for a very long time and ultimately resulting in unevenness throughout the songs packed in it. The members of the group were slowly losing hold over their creative prowess.

In 1980, the band attended a fundraiser in Long Beach, California. Here, the then-Senator of State, Alan Cranston thanked each member. There was a meet and greet before the performance where the interaction between Cranston and The Eagles took place. Glenn Frey and Don Henley were the first members of The Eagles. During the meet and greet, Frey said that Felder was disrespectful to the Senator while thanking him.

Later on stage, Frey confronted Felder about the interaction. Felder was hostile regarding his response to Frey about the same. After their performance the same day, Felder smashed his guitar on the wall and sped away in a limousine. This is the story of how The Eagles first broke up. The group has had several members, on and off, since then. However, it has never been the same anymore. At present, the five members of the Eagles are Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy Schmitt, Deacon Frey, and Vince Gill. The latest studio music from the band last came in 2007.
