The American basketball player Hunter Dickinson is a player at the University Of Kansas. The 22-year-old basketball player used to play for Michigan but recently transferred to Kansas. This decision shocked the fans who had seen him play for a while.
But, although it was surprising for some people, this wasn’t a rash and hurried decision. Dickinson knew what he was doing and looked through his options before finalizing the school where he would spend his next year.
Dickinson was the face of the school’s program. Moreover, he was also one of the Big Ten’s best players in just three years of his time with the Wolverines, which says a lot about his skills. So what happened with Michigan?
The basketball player himself answers the question and says that he still loves Michigan and the school, the program, and everything. His love for it made it hard for him to leave, but he knew in his heart that leaving was the best decision for him.
He also added that it took a lot of courage to do what’s best and right for him and his career and not to think about what’s best for anybody else’s career.
Dickinson Suddenly Transfers To Kansas!
He announced the news about transferring to Kansas back in May, saying he was leaving in order to earn more from his name, image, and likeness. Michigan’s poor season in 2022-23 also played a hand in his sudden decision to transfer.
On a podcast, the famous basketball player mentioned that people hating on him right now would leave their jobs for a $10,000 increase, and he got less than six figures at Michigan. As with most cases, it’s safe to say the main reason why Hunter transferred was money.
At the base of all of it, money is the reason why we are here, and it makes sense to go where he was receiving more, or should we say, where he was getting what he deserved.
Why Did Hunter Dickinson Transfer To Kansas?
Dickinson still has one remaining year of college eligibility after 2023-24, so he wanted to choose a place with the strongest track record of winning championships as well as getting players into the NBA. He talked about how he could go to any other school if he wanted to go to the highest bidder, but he didn’t.
In an interview with ESPN, he mentioned this was why he chose Kansas. His transfer was a basketball-driven decision and not influenced by monetary factors. He visited several schools and thought he could go anywhere, which is why it took him so long to pick one school.
However, after his comment about making less than six figures in Michigan, one can assume that Dickinson is calling their athletic program “cheap” with their NIL deals. While Kansas, on the other hand, is completely opposite when it comes to their NIL deal.
His new coach, Bill Self, commented that he is the most prepared-to-produce player they have ever recruited. He further added that during his time [almost two decades] at Kansas, no one has ever arrived better prepared to produce or receive accolades.
Dickinson says it’s fun being a good college basketball player. He also revealed that while making the decision to transfer, he wasn’t thinking about his immediate paycheck but rather focusing on how to utilize his potential to its maximum extent and make a long professional career in the NBA
Dickinson is an amazing player who has proved that he’s in for a long haul, but will his decision to change schools benefits him or not remains yet to be seen. We hope for the best, and we’ll surely keep an eye on the player’s performance as he shines even more!
