Fans who watched Celebrity Race Across The World were sad to see Billy and Bonny leave the show, but why did they have to leave the race so suddenly when they were at their peak?
Celebrity Race Across The World is a UK celebrity edition of Race Across the World. The original network of this reality series is BBC One. The show was released on 20th September and concluded on 25th October 2023 with six episodes. The whole series consisted of six hour-long episodes.
As you might know, the show follows four celebrities and their partners who are challenged to travel more than 6000 miles in a given time. The journey of these selected celebrities began in Marrakech, Morocco, and ended in Norway. The route of their race spanned 24 countries and over 10,000 kilometers.
The four pairs of competitors for the show included weather presenter Alex Beresford with his father Noel; former All Saints singer Melanie Blatt with her mother Helene; McFly drummer Harry Judd with his mother Emma; and former British F4 Racing Driver Billy Monger with his sister Bonny.
Celebrity Race Across The World: Show Format
In the show, there were five checkpoints in the race with enforced rest periods. The tricky part was that the contestants didn’t know about their next destination until they departed from a checkpoint. This complicated matters because they had to take a break and waste time in uncertainty.
The budget of a team in Celebrity Race Across The World was £1947 per person, which is equivalent to the airfare for traveling the race route. Since it’s a reality show, this race came with its own set of problems and difficulties. This meant that the contestants couldn’t subsidize their budgets. However, short-term opportunities allowed them to work for money or bed and board, which made things easier.
Moreover, they were not even given access to telephones, the internet, or any of the modern things that might make their journey comfortable. Yet, despite all those challenges, they were at least given a map, a travel guide as well as a GPS tracker for this journey.
Celebrity Race Across The World: Who Are Billy And Bonny?
Billy Monger was the 24-year-old racing driver who had joined the show with his sister Bonny Monger, a 23-year-old make-up artist. These two were doing rather well at the show, ending up in second and third position regularly. In the fifth episode, they had successfully secured the first position when real life got in their way.
Why Did Billy And Bonny Leave Celebrity Race Across The World?
Apparently, a family emergency put a brake on their plans. It was revealed that a close family member had a bad accident, and they made a mutual decision to quit the race after spending so much time. In the show, they were shown opening a letter and they looked devastated upon hearing about the accident.
Billy and Bonny returned home instead of continuing the race because they believe that family comes first. After five amazing episodes, this sibling duo left the race to be there for their family in their time of need.
Both Billy and Bonny were sad and absolutely gutted about this sudden change and hated saying goodbye to the race. But they had a family emergency back in the UK, which meant he and his sister, Bon, couldn’t continue. They handled things wisely even though it was hard. Since they were growing into the race and it was rather at their peak point that they were forced to leave due to the accident, it was surely a blow to their hearts.
Winner Of Celebrity Race Across The World
