Known for his Christian music and work as a pastor, Cory Asbury is a musician who has released well-known albums like Let Me See Your Eyes and songs like Reckless Love over the past 18 years of his career.
Born in North Carolina, Asbury was always interested in music, and when he was old enough, he began leading worship at a local church. Right after Cory ended high school, he joined the International House of Prayer in Kansas City as an intern. This eventually came to be the place where Cory started to release his own music.
During his seven-year stay in Kansas City, Cory released albums like Immersed and Holy along with fellow artists Matt Gilman, Misty Edwards, and others. His first ever solo album came out in 2009, which Asbury titled “Let Me See Your Eyes.”
Besides Cory’s usual style, the album also had different styles like electro and rap, making it quite unique and harmonious. This was the start of Asbury’s years-long solo career, filled with multiple popular songs that dominated the Billboard charts.
After he joined Bethel Music in 2015, Asbury’s career took a huge step forward, and the singer was able to advance his reach through the music group. However, fast forward to 8 years later, it looks like the partnership isn’t alive anymore.
Why Did Cory Asbury Leave Bethel Music?
Bethel Music and Cory Asbury have been together ever since the 2015 deal. Through this partnership, hit songs like Have It All came out, which ended up topping the Billboard Christian Music charts and selling almost 25,000 copies.
Cory even toured with Bethel Music and participated in their huge event, which happens every year. Asbury’s third album, Reckless Love, was also released in partnership with Bethel Music. Reckless Love ended up selling 11,000 copies in its first week and reached the number one position on the Christian Albums chart by Billboard.
Despite their great partnership in the past few years, Asbury has decided to part ways with Bethel Music. The Christian singer addresses it on his TikTok channel quite a few times.
While the real reason behind Asbury’s exit is not known, his TikToks suggest that they parted ways amicably and didn’t have any drama between them. Asbury reveals that he and Bethel were now going in different directions, working on different music, and the styles just weren’t the same anymore.
Just as he’s talking about the Bethel exit in the post, Cory humorously mutes the TikTok. In another video, Asbury was seen answering most searched questions about himself, where one of the questions was whether he had left Bethel or not.
Cory answered it by saying that he was no longer a part of it and that the Bethel partnership was a thing of the past. This confirms the fact that Cory and Bethel Music aren’t going to be working together anymore.
There were rumors of Asbury leaving the music industry and taking a break due to him being divorced by his long-time wife. That’s certainly not true, as Cory confirmed they were still together in his recent TikTok.
The period where the deal ended & Bethel and Cory stopped working together is not known, but it likely happened before the Christian artist took a break from working on new things for a while.
By 2021, Cory was nominated for GMA Dove Awards, showing just how well his music ended up doing within the Christian community. Following the news of his nominations, Cory started focusing on releasing more creative music.
Cory Asbury: Where Is The Musician Now?
Seeing his TikTok, it’s safe to say that Cory Asbury is back to making new music again, just that this time, it’s not with Bethel Music. His album “Pioneer” was released earlier this year, with more samples of new upcoming songs spread throughout Asbury’s TikToks.
Pioneer will be the first album Cory releases ever since he took a break from music in 2020 after releasing the album “To Love A Fool.” With his unforgettable voice and soothing music, Cory will soon be coming back to the music industry better than ever before.
For now, Cory Asbury seems to be busy spending more time with his wife, Anna, and their 4 kids while also working on exciting new songs and albums.
