Upcoming HBO historical political Original miniseries White House Plumbers will tell viewers the story of the men involved in the Watergate scandal during the Richard Nixon presidency, which paved the way for his resignation in the 1970s. With an ensemble cast led by Academy Award-nominee Woody Harrelson, Kiernan Shipka, Lena Headey, Corbin Bernsen, Kathleen Turner, and Justin Theroux, the miniseries will provide a historical context while keeping things on the funny side of storytelling.
The upcoming series, developed by Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck and with the direction of former showrunner for HBO’s Veep and executive producer for Curb Your Enthusiasm David Mandel, the show will bring to the small screen an adaptation of the book that tells the story of the vantage points of the perpetrators and ringleaders of the bunch that broke in the Watergate building, got caught and led to a series of political stirrups that led to the resignation of Richard Nixon after an egregious process of obstruction of justice and his eventual impeachment.
White House Plumbers Spoilers
White House Plumbers tells the story of the men hired by the White House staff during the Nixon presidency to infiltrate and place listening devices in the Democratic National Headquarters ahead of the reelection of then-US President Richard Nixon. The Watergate scandal was the inspiration for many films, novels, books, and series. Take, for example, “All The President’s Men”, based upon a book by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, which turned into a movie starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman, or Oliver Stone’s Nixon, starring Anthony Hopkins.
For White House Plumbers, we’ll meet Woody Harrelson’s character E. Howard Hunt, a man of many talents tasked with the utterly illegal job of getting a group of shady characters to go out and steal information from the Democratic National Committee’s campaign by placing listening devices in the offices. Only to be caught doing it and unleashing a political scandal that will touch him, his wife, played by Lena Headey, his daughter, played by Kiernan Shipka, and everyone in his orbit as the political establishment rushes to cover it up to save Nixon’s fate.
For this series, Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck chose the book penned by Egil and Matthew Krogh “Integrity: Good People, Bad Choices, and Life Lessons from the White House” to adapt it to the small screen with a great ensemble cast led by Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt, the man put in charge of the Watergate break-in by high-level White House operatives. Joined by Justin Theroux, Lena Headey, Kiernan Shipka, and many more, we can expect an engaging, funny, and nice depiction of an egregious abuse of power that shook the political establishment back in its time.
