Which Is The First K-pop Girl Group?
S.E.S is the first K-pop girl group. S.E.S consisted of three members- Bada, Eugene, and Shoo, who debuted with their debut album I’m Your Girl. I’m Your Girl sold 650,000 copies which became the 2nd highest-selling album by a girl group in Korea at that time. There is no reason to wonder why their upcoming releases Sea & Eugene & Shoo, Love and a Letter from Greenland did outstanding commercially and became best-sellers.
The girl group was dubbed the female versions of their labelmate boy group H.O.T. Soon enough became a big competition for other emerging girl groups like Fin.K.L, Baby V.O.X, and Jewelry. Maybe this is why so many of our favorite artists nowadays look up to them since they were just the beginning of the big line of awesome girl groups coming.
When Did It Disband?
Sadly for the fans of S.E.S, the group officially disbanded in the December of 2002 because of an unsuccessful contract renewal. Shoo and Eugene were the ones who did not want to continue under SM Entertainment. As their final release and as a token of gratitude to their fans, S.E.S a compilation album named Beautiful Songs. However, this was not to be the last time that K-pop fans were to see the girls together.
Fans had been ecstatic that the girls will be returning in 2016 with a full album as well as a concert in honor of their 20th debut anniversary. The new album was called Remember and had ten singles, Candy Lane, Remember, Paradise, Birthday, My Rainbow, Hush, Life, The Light, and Love. Ever since then, the members have not come together to create new music and have been focusing more on their solo careers.
