The picture grossed 348 million (US$5.18 million) on its second day and 424 million (US$6.31 million) on its third day, bringing the opening weekend total to 1.07 billion (US$15.92 million). On January 9, 2017, Dangal surpassed Aamir Khan’s previous film PK to become the highest-grossing Indian film in the country. It eventually grossed 538.03 crores (US$80.07 million) in India across all languages. The film received 37 million admissions at the domestic Indian box office.
Dangal’s satellite rights were sold in India for 110 crores (US$15 million), the highest price ever paid for a film till Race 3 (2018). Dangal premiered on Indian television in 2017. Its TV premiere on Zee TV in May 2017 got 16.263 million viewers, the network’s second best for a film, following Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015). Dangal was the second-most viewed Hindi-language film in India in 2017, trailing only the Hindi-dubbed edition of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which got 26.054 million viewers.
