2021 released and highly anticipated teen mystery show that has its audience in a gripping chokehold has recently released its second season, and fans could not be more excited. Cruel Summer aired its first season in April 2021, and the producers decided not to make the fans wait for the show’s return, launching its second season on June 2nd, 2023. Season one of the series, with its unique concept of introducing new stories and new characters with every season, managed to become the new ‘hot thing’, and season two continues to ride on its success.
Set in the early 2000s, the second season of the series revolves around the two best friends and the mysterious way which leads to its end. This season much like the previous one, will follow the miserable lives of the people living in the small town of Chatham. The show has cast Sadie Stanley for the role of Megan Landry, one of our main leads, alongside Lexi Underwood, as the second lead named Isabella LaRue.
Actor Griffin Gluck is also cast in the show as Megan’s friend, Luke Chambers, with Sean Blakemore as the town sheriff, Sheriff Myer, and a few others in supporting roles. Though the season has just taken off, it has managed to garner positive reviews from fans, becoming one of Freeform Network’s most-watched shows. While the show continues to rise in popularity, curious fans of the show can find the exciting locations where the series was shot mentioned below.
Cruel Summer Season 2 Filming Locations
The second season of the show claims to be set in a town called Chatham in the Pacific Northwest; fans should know that the town does not actually exist. The entire place remains fictional, with the filming crew and the actors traveling to different places to get the actual feel of the town.
Richmond, British Columbia
Richmond City is located in British Columbia, Canada, which is where the entirety of the show seems to be shot. The producers and the filming crew revealed how difficult the shooting process was, considering the weather seemed to just not want to cooperate with them. The city has actually been cast in a lot of other successful projects as well, including Once Upon A Time, Supernatural, and one of the Twilight movies.
One of the actors from the show revealed that if fans look closely, they would observe that the season changes throughout the show do not make all that sense and are very difficult to maintain. It seems like the season changes in the series and that, in real life, were moving in opposite directions as the actor Griffin Gluck revealed that scenes that look like they were shot in summer were actually some of his coldest days on the shoot.
And what looked like winter in the series was the actors actually dying because of the heat from the hot sun in peak summer. Despite their struggle, the makers of the show continued to shoot in the surrounding areas of the city of Richmond, in British Columbia. Till now, we have seen locations like the Sunset Marina and the Sea To Sky Highway, a beautiful green corridor running for a little over three hundred and fifty kilometers.
Some of the scenes in the show also seem to be shot in a small suburban town in British Columbia called Cloverdale, which has the Clova Theatre that got featured in the show. A lot of the series has been shot around different lakes, though it is difficult to tell which ones just based on the show, and a lot of forests seem to be spread around British Columbia.
The crew struggled at these locations, too, with the strong winds and a ridiculous amount of mosquitoes. The filming process of the show lasted for a total of four months, and although the cast and the crew went through a life’s worth of problems just to get the filming done, the success of the season must have been a reward enough to make them all bearable.
