Did you watch the first few episodes of Ahsoka and wonder when the story is happening? You are not alone; the new show on Disney Plus does not clearly say when it is set. And if you like Star Wars Rebels, you might notice that it seems to say things that do not match up with what happened in that show. The new show is about Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson. She is playing the same role she did in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.
We first met Ahsoka in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where she was a student of Anakin Skywalker. But in the new show, she is shown as an older and wiser person who helped the Rebellion in the shadows.
Since she has been in both animated and live-action shows, you might be curious about when Ahsoka’s story happens in the Star Wars timeline. Let us gather all the small clues and try to understand what they tell us, especially considering how Ahsoka’s story does not clearly reveal when it is happening.
When is Ahsoka placed in the Star Wars timeline?
If you are hoping to find out the specific year when the show happens, you might be let down. There is no information available that clearly says the exact time in the Star Wars timeline for Ahsoka. But we can try to figure it out using a few hints.
Ahsoka’s story comes after both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. In the series, Ahsoka and Sabine Wren will face off against Thrawn, who was last seen with Ezra Bridger in Rebels.
Since the series talks about things that happened in Rebels, we can be sure it takes place after that show, especially after 1 BBY. We can figure out a more exact time because of The Mandalorian. In the second season, Ahsoka was still searching for Thrawn, probably without Sabine’s help.

Also, an episode in the third season, Chapter 23: The Spies, mentions Thrawn coming back. So, the events in Ahsoka have not taken place yet, as he is obviously returning to that show. The Mandalorian happens after the first Star Wars movies because the people Din Djarin with are from The New Republic, which started in 5 ABY after Return of the Jedi. The show starts five years later, so it is at least 10 ABY.
It might even be closer to 11 or 12 ABY. This is clearer because Jon Favreau, who made The Mandalorian, caused some confusion when the third season came out. So, even though we are not sure officially, we can guess that Ahsoka is set around 11 ABY, during The New Republic time. But that is not the only thing we are not sure about officially.

Was Ahsoka there during the original Star Wars trilogy?
Sadly, we do not have precise information about what Ahsoka was up to during the time of the first Star Wars movies. Most of what we know comes from either those movies or the comics.
Since she was not in either of those, it was tough to figure out where she was or what she was doing exactly. We are not really sure where she was after her last appearance in Rebels until she showed up in the second season of The Mandalorian.
Everything will likely become clear when Ahsoka’s first two episodes air on August 23, 2023. That covers all the information you might need to understand when Ahsoka’s story happens in the Star Wars timeline.
