“It wasn’t fun to make stuff anymore. I think breaking up the band broke us out of that machine.”
The “machine” he referred to was the industry grind—the tours, the album cycles, the pressure—that began to overshadow their creative spirit. MCR had become larger than life, and with that came expectations that stifled the band’s passion.

Following the split, Gerard Way wasted no time exploring his own artistic identity. In 2014, he released his debut solo album Hesitant Alien, showcasing a different sound and proving that his creative flame was still burning strong.
