About The Series Endeavour:
“Endeavour” is a popular British television series. The first season aired in the year 2013. Since then, there have been 9 seasons to the show leading to its eventual conclusion. The show is a prequel to the popular detective drama “Inspector Morse.”
The show is set in the streets of England, in Oxford.
The show gives the surroundings the rustic old look of England in the 1960s and 1970s era. The show mainly explores the early days of the popular detective Morse. The character of Morse has been portrayed by popular actor, Shaun Evans. He has brilliantly adopted the character of Detective Morse, with a combination of a sharp mind and intellect and a reflective mind.
The series accurately represents the era of the past. It recreated the environment at the time, by showcasing the social and cultural aspects that existed in the era. There is a lot of detail put into the language used by the characters, and their dressing sense, including the clothes and ornaments worn by them
. The music has also been set to suit the particular 1960s-70s style, and the total atmosphere surrounding the show is nostalgia which enhances the storytelling aspect of the show. The attention to detail, such as vintage and old cars, and the props used, all are amazing. The detailing has eventually led to the huge fan base of the show, and it is indeed no surprise to see such a charm for the show.
The show is a complex drama that combines the elements of murders and mysteries. Each episode involves Inspector Morse using his extreme wit, mind power, and intellectual abilities to solve complex mysteries and puzzles. Morse eventually develops a strong and bold character which the audience comes to love through his experience and hardships on the show.
What Happened To Morse In The Last Episode Of Endeavour?
The final episode reveals Morse’s mentor, Fred Thursday, to be the actual murderer of a man named Tomahawk. It is revealed that Fred’s son, Sam, was involved in a drug dealing scenario with the man, who happened to be a part of a biker gang. Tomahawk was threatening Sam, and Fred stabbed him in order to save his child Sam. This eventually caused Tomahawk’s death, propelling his biker gang to seek revenge.
The episode shows Morse and Fred parting ways in order for Fred and his son, Sam, to be safe from the biker gang. Before parting, Fred gives Morse his revolver.
The final scenes show Morse sitting on a Bench in the Churchyard, holding the revolver that Fred gave him and reloading him. Then the viewers hear a gunshot and are shocked. Everyone believes that Morse might have actually shot himself since he might be contemplating suicide.
However, he is later shown driving off in his Jaguar, which states that he is alive and safe. So the question arises about why Morse shot the bullet. It is left open to the interpretation of the viewers. It is almost certain that Morse did not kill anybody.
The bullet might have been a symbolic representation of the death of Morse Endeavour as a character and being reborn as just Morse, which perfectly fits the sequel. Another reason might be that Morse was left alone after his mentor left, and he could have fired the bullet in a fit of rage. The ending is open to interpretations, and till an insider source tells the exact reason for the fired bullet, no one can be certain.
