The two best friends are also the co-producer of the iCarly show. While Sam was the co-host, Freddie handled the technical department.
Recently, the iCarly show was set for a revival on Paramount+. The first episode was aired on 17 June 2021, while the second season was started in April 2022. Even a third season is underway that is to be released in 2023. Most of the cast is still the same. However, fans were shocked when they realized that Jennette McCurdy, who played the role of Sam Puckett, was missing from the revival show.
Jennette McCurdy’s Early Life
Born into a Mormon family, Jennette McCurdy is an American writer, director, podcaster, singer, and former actress. She was born on 26 June 1992 in an economically-weaker family. She made her acting debut in 2000 when she was just 8 years old.
She then went on to gain fame when she played the role of Sam in iCarly and then was the main character in Sam & Cat, where her previous role was reprised. Apart from acting, she also released her debut album, So Close, in 2009. She wrote articles for The Wall Street Journal in 2011 and is a prolific writer.
What Happened To Jennette From iCarly?
Having been a major part of the original iCarly show, it was a surprise for everyone when Jennette McCurdy denied being in the revival of the show. The reason is published in her self-authored book I’m Glad My Mom Died, which recently hit the shelves all over the world on 9 August 2022.
A heartbreaking and hilarious memoir by iCarly and Sam & Cat star Jennette McCurdy about her struggles as a former child actor—including eating disorders, addiction, and a complicated relationship with her overbearing mother—and how she retook control of her life
Jennette explains the relationship with her mother and how her mother, Debra had huge control over her in her childhood. It was her mother who pushed her into the acting field and further coerced her into a calorie-deficit diet at the young age of 11. She died of cancer in 2013, and hence the book is divided into two halves – before and after, much like in the novel Looking For Alaska.
Jennette made the big decision to quit acting and instead pursue her passion for writing in 2017. No longer bound to her mother’s cruel clutches, Jennette let go of her past to finally live her life as her own. In one of her podcasts titled Empty Inside, Jennette threw light on the reason for this decision. She said that she was embarrassed about 90% of her resume and felt ashamed of the roles that made her famous.
There are times when you grow up and look back on your childhood, you realize how different you were, and maybe that’s how Jennette felt. Her mental health has become a bigger priority. She said to her former co-star Miranda Cosgrove,
Miranda, I’m not doing the reboot. There’s nothing you can say to convince me.
It’s true when one has set their mind to something, nothing could deter them. Jennette McCurdy has decided that she is done being o camera and living the ‘Hollywood life’. She wants her life to be on her own terms. Being pressurised from childhood to things by her mother, she is finally free now.
