“DEFENDING ON HOW THIS YEAR GOES, IF I’M HUNGRY FOR MORE, I’LL DO ANOTHER. IF I DON’T, I WON’T”. Does that mean this can be the last year we see the former Mr. Olympia? What is going on with CBUM? After seeing him as Mr. Olympia Classic Physique for consecutively three years from 2019-2021, will this be the last year we see him compete for the title?
Born on February 2, 1995, Christopher Adam Bumstead, who goes by the moniker “CBUM” is a professional bodybuilder in the IFBB from Canada. Bumstead won Mr. Olympia in 2019, 2020 and 2021 to become the Mr. Olympia Classic Physique champion. 2014 marked Bumstead’s competition debut at the age of 19, and he received his IFBB pro card after winning the IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championship in 2016 at the age of 21.
He finished 2017 in the Classic Physique division as the runner-up after several competitions, losing to Breon Ansley. Chris competed in his first Olympia and won second place in the Classic Physique division after impressing both the audience and the judges. Next year at the 2018 Olympia competition, Bumstead’s results were the same. However, he performed slightly worse than in the 2017 Olympia tournament.

What happened in 2018?
Bodybuilding is a difficult sport, and it depends on one’s body condition as well as its appearance. Achieving higher goals requires being healthy. This could affect the outcomes if you have a tendency to get sick easily or neglect to take care of your physical health.
During the Mr. Olympia competition in 2018, Chris spoke about a comparable occurrence. The celebrity once admitted that health issues prevented him from winning the 2018 title. Since then, Bumstead has kept a close eye on his well-being while competing in other events.
He put in a lot of work in his preparation for the title, just like every other bodybuilder. He did experience setbacks, though, one in the form of kidney disease. The celebrity admitted that during his preparations, his legs would bulge. He had his kidneys examined when things started to worry him, and the results revealed that he had IGA Nephropathy, an autoimmune kidney condition.
The celebrity bemoaned the fact that there was no quick fix and that he might have to live with the issue forever, as there is no treatment currently. His kidneys got inflamed as a result of the condition. His immune system is suppressed by the medications he is taking to treat the condition, hence even after taking proper medications, the star has to check up on his health closely in order to avoid mishaps.
The celebrity also disclosed renal problems before when he was a student and he is not new to this. He has faced a similar problem that needed him to be hospitalized due to a flare-up. They were unable to identify the true problem back then.
Since 2018, CBUM has ruled the Mr. Olympia Classic Physique Division Championship for three years.
Courtney King, the champion’s longtime girlfriend, just was asked to marry him. They shared stunning engagement photos on social media, but are yet to announce the D-date.
CBUM’s story is inspirational. It is challenging to fight sickness when training for a rigorous activity like bodybuilding. However, the celebrity bodybuilder continues to practice frequently to be on top of his sport.
Is CBUM retiring?
As he is getting ready to defend his Classic Physique Olympia championship crown for a record-breaking fourth time at the 2022 Olympia, Chris Bumstead is killing it in the gym. He’s taking even better care of his body outside the gym. CBUM recently talked about the advantages of stem cell therapy in a video before working out his hamstrings.
He has previously spoken about his retirement, but lately, he has adopted a new stance. Chris, while being questioned by Muscular Development Magazine during a recent interview, acknowledged that his career has no particular timelines set by him.
When asked, “You mentioned retiring by 30 when you spoke a few years ago… Your health is in control for the time being. A total of three titles. You’re still just 27. Do you still believe that ‘I need to retire by this with this many titles,’ or is it more year after year?”
Bumstead replies he is sure of taking it more year-by-year as it is foolish to predict the day when I would be prepared to be finished”
He adds He’ll do another year depending on how this year goes and how he feels, both mentally and physically, and continues with,” IF I’M EXCITED AND HUNGRY FOR MORE, I WILL, IF I DON’T, I WON’T”.
Well, as inspiring as CBUM’s journey is, while watching him trudge forward, we definitely want to see more of him in the coming years. But for now, all we can hope for him to manage his title and come back at it again. Let’s see what time brings in.
