Shuntaro Furukawa Says Pokémon Winds Waves Will Be a Crucial Switch 2 Release in 2027

Speaking during Nintendo’s November 2026 financial results Q&A, president Shuntaro Furukawa described Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves as a crucial release for the Switch 2. The two upcoming Generation 10 games are scheduled to launch in 2027, when Nintendo’s latest console enters its third year on the market.

Furukawa acknowledged that Pokémon’s business development is managed by The Pokémon Company, an affiliate of Nintendo, and declined to disclose specific sales expectations. However, he highlighted the franchise’s historical importance in encouraging consumers to purchase Nintendo hardware.

“Pokémon titles have historically played a vital role in the adoption of our dedicated gaming hardware,”

Furukawa stated.

He also pointed to Pokémon Pokopia, released in March 2026, as a major contributor to Switch 2 sales.

“We intend to do our utmost to maximize its sales,”

the president added.

Nintendo’s strategy reflects the franchise’s importance to its hardware business, particularly as it looks to attract more players to Switch 2.
