Mirabel was still being used by a few charter airlines like Air Transat up until 2004 when the airport stopped being used for commercial flights. The terminal was destroyed once the filming was finished, leaving an empty field.
Olympic Stadium
Some of the funny chase scenes are said to be filmed at the majestic Olympic Stadium in Montreal. We learn how this stadium’s exteriors are majorly altered by CGI in the climactic scene of the movie.
The linked tower was actually removed from the shot in the movie. The crew also added more levels to the stadium.
The Montreal Botanical Garden, a Planetarium, and the Biodome are just a few of this very area’s other intriguing tourist attractions. The Olympic Stadium from Montreal is said to have served as the backdrop for several of the chase sequences.
Then we know how R and Julie drop to their deaths into the lake below in the movie’s climactic sequence, so for that, the crew altered the stadium walls for the scene. Other interesting tourist attractions in the vicinity include the Montreal Botanical Garden and the Biodome.
Residential Street
An area north of Montreal was also apparently chosen for the scenes of the residential street that you saw in the film. The neighborhood was abandoned for this very film. Furthermore, since the filming, a few of the houses in the backdrop have now been constructed. The scenes of the house street were reportedly shot in a region north of Montreal.
The area, which consisted of just one significant home, was littered with waste and dirt to create the appearance that it had been abandoned. In addition, some of the houses in the background were built after the filming.
City Skyline
The picture of the beautiful Montreal skyline was also used for the scene when Julie made her way back to the walled city. At the time of filming, this location was a highway leading into the city; nevertheless, it is now a park area.
