WARDOGS could eventually receive PvE missions and an extraction-style mode after launch, with BULKHEAD already having playable prototypes for some of these ideas. The developer’s plans could significantly expand the tactical shooter’s gameplay beyond its current large-scale multiplayer experience.

In an interview with Insider Gaming at Gamescom 2026, BULKHEAD CFO and Senior Game Director Mark Pinney and CEO and Executive Producer Joe Brammer discussed the studio’s long-term vision for WARDOGS. The game is scheduled to enter Steam Early Access on September 10, 2026.

BULKHEAD Has Already Built PvE Prototypes

Brammer confirmed that the studio has experimented with content that would allow players to move away from the game’s competitive multiplayer battles. Speaking about the possibility of PvE gameplay, he revealed that BULKHEAD already has a working prototype, although he described its current state as rough.

“We actually have a prototype of it, where you can go off and do missions.”

He explained that the team’s broader vision is to build WARDOGS as a platform that can grow over several years. Rather than creating an entirely separate game for different experiences, BULKHEAD wants future expansions to introduce additional modes through downloadable content.

Brammer said the studio’s vision is for players to buy WARDOGS and use the same account while new modes are added over time. According to him, the goal is to use DLC to introduce “new game modes” and continue supporting the game’s development.

BULKHEAD has also discussed the possibility of an extraction-based experience. Brammer stressed that WARDOGS should not currently be described as an extraction shooter, but the studio could create an extraction mode as part of its future DLC plans.

He suggested that players could enter a mode to loot equipment, successfully extract, and then carry that gear into other WARDOGS experiences. This could create connections between different modes while keeping everything tied to a single player account.

WARDOGS is currently positioned as a large-scale tactical FPS featuring up to 100 players across three teams, with combat centered around dynamic control zones, vehicles, destruction, and an in-game economy. The addition of PvE or extraction gameplay could therefore give BULKHEAD a way to reach players who want something different from its core competitive mode.
