The chapter starts with Ruth apologizing to Maxi. Ruth wanted to resume Maxi’s magic lesson since she didn’t have control over her magic. He apologized to Maxi for what she had to go through because he didn’t warn her.
Later in the story, we see Maximilian visiting the main hall after hearing some noises coming from there. When she got there, she saw the knight holding an armor covered with blood. On second thought, Maxi realized that it was Riftan’s armor. So she rushes to check on Riftan.
It seems like Riftan has a different kind of concern towards Maximilian. In the meantime, it won’t affect them that much, but in the long run, it will affect them psychologically. So, Riftan should try to be less protective of her.
Being tough and standing on your own feet is good, but as humans, we should consider that we always have limits to what we can handle. I think it just shows how Riftan perceives this as a not-good being used to because he experienced it firsthand, and he does want her to experience it too (being used to seeing blood).
It may seem like Riftan is being way too overprotective of Maxi as if she is supposed to do nothing but play with cats. However, Riftan isn’t necessarily overprotective. He thinks Maxi is the pampered and loved daughter of a high-ranking noble.
Riftan doesn’t want Maxi to deal with hardships she didn’t face at home. But he doesn’t know that Maxi was mistreated and stuff. That’s why Maxi’s so uncomfortable when he treats her like a flower.
