The European Broadcasting Union, abbreviated as EBU, is a European Organization that includes European countries in the Council of Europe. There are 122 members in the Council of Europe out of 54 countries. The European Broadcasting Union was founded in 1950 and is currently situated in Geneva.
The European Song Contest, also abbreviated as ESC and popularly known as Eurovision. Eurovision is a song competition organized internationally by the European Broadcasting Union. Every country in the Council of Europe sends their contestant to this international competition. The European Song Contest was initiated in 1956, with France, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Belgium, and the Netherlands being its first contestants.
The most successful country in the Eurovision is Ireland, with winning 7 Eurovision titles throughout history. The second most titles have been banged by Sweden with 6 Eurovision titles. Followed by the United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, and Luxembourg, with five titles each. Switzerland was the first country to win the debutant of the Eurovision in 1956.
Now talking about the records in the Eurovision, we have Spain, which holds a record of back-to-back two consecutive title wins in the Eurovision in the year 1968 and in the year. Likewise, Spain is one of many countries to do this. It is the first country to do this but not the only country to do this; there are two other teams who made it happen; they are Luxembourg in the year 1978 and the year 1979; the third country to do this is Israel in the year 1978 and in 1979.
In the year 1992, the year 1993, and in the year 1994, Ireland made history in the Eurovision, making it the first and the only country to date to win three consecutive Eurovision titles.
Mae Muller and her controversial statements and tweets:
BBC has chosen a left-wing activist and singer, Mae Muller, to represent the UK in the Eurovision Contest. The 25-year-old has sparked controversy due to her past tweets, in which she expressed strong opinions against the Conservative Party and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Her tweet, “I hate this country,” in relation to a free school meals dispute, generated a significant negative response from the public. Despite the backlash, Muller stands by her statements. She said she did not regret her comments but also emphasized that the comments were made in a particular context and should not be taken out of context.
Muller has also revealed that she has applied for a German passport and wants to spend the rest of her life in Spain. She explained that her surname comes from her Jewish grandfather, who fled from Germany to Britain during World War II. Under Germany’s reconciliatory process, Muller is eligible for citizenship as a descendant of Nazi persecution. “I love where I come from,” says the artist.
In an interview with The Times, Muller said that she wants to do well in the competition. However, her controversial tweets have not caused the BBC to ask her to change her personality. She believes that it’s essential for young women to see that they can have a voice. Muller said, “Music industry always wants women to be role models, but it doesn’t have to be a role model all the time.”
Muller was selected by the BBC in partnership with management company Tap Music, as they hoped she would be an inspirational woman who could win the contest. Despite the controversy surrounding her, Muller said she loves where she’s from and feels privileged to have been born in the UK. She said that she only wanted the best for this country, and the country is being deprived of it by the politicians, which is why she stood up to these people who do not care about the welfare of the country.
Muller also addressed the music industry’s latest trend of signing artists who already have a large following and not giving them the time to develop on their own. She noted that the rise of TikTok has contributed to this culture, where success is only measured by how quickly an artist can gain popularity.
