Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed gratitude to U.S. President Joe Biden for his support and leadership during a recent telephone conversation.
Through the Telegram messaging app, Zelenskiy highlighted the pivotal role played by House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in ensuring the passage of a significant military aid bill to Ukraine.
In his nightly video address, Zelenskiy emphasized the importance of the legislation, which, once approved by the U.S. Senate and signed by President Biden, would provide Ukraine with the long-sought-after Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS).
He thanked President Biden, Congress, and the American people for their commitment and support in this endeavor.
The ATACMS, long-range guided missiles, are among the equipment expected to be dispatched to Ukraine this week, as mentioned by U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Mark Warner during a recent appearance on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
Last October, the White House confirmed providing Kyiv with a variant of ATACMS capable of targeting locations up to 165 kilometers away.
During the conversation with President Biden, Zelenskiy also drew attention to the ongoing Russian air attacks, which have intensified with missile strikes, drones, and bombings.
He particularly highlighted an incident involving a strike on a television tower in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, just moments before their discussion.
Zelenskiy informed a visiting delegation of U.S. congressional members about Ukraine’s urgent defense requirements, especially the need for enhanced air defense capabilities.
Through these interactions, Ukraine seeks to strengthen its partnership with the United States and address the escalating security challenges it faces.
