Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has officially launched, but alongside positive reactions to its faithful recreation of the beloved pirate adventure, Ubisoft is facing criticism over the game’s optional paid content.
Many Steam users have voiced concerns about the number of purchasable DLC packs available at launch, prompting Ubisoft to issue a public response directly on the platform.
Ubisoft says the full game is included in the standard edition
While English-language Steam reviews currently trend “Mostly Positive,” the game’s overall rating sits at “Mixed,” with many negative reviews centered on pricing rather than gameplay or performance.
Some players criticized the combination of the game’s premium launch price and optional DLC packs, arguing that the additional purchases make the overall cost significantly higher. Others expressed concern that some packs offer gameplay advantages rather than purely cosmetic items.
In response, Ubisoft has been posting the same official message to reviews discussing the issue.
“We’ve seen your feedback since launch, and we’re reading all of it. Thank you for caring this much about Black Flag Resynced,”
Ubisoft wrote.

The publisher also emphasized that players are not required to purchase additional content to enjoy the game.
“We want to be clear on one point: the standard edition is the full, complete experience. Every mission, every island, the full story, and the complete world are all there, with nothing held back.”
Developer insists paid packs are optional
Ubisoft further addressed concerns by clarifying the purpose of the extra content.
“The additional packs are entirely optional extras for players who want them, never a requirement to enjoy or complete the game. We’ll keep listening as you play!”
the company stated.
The developer has also been replying to positive reviews, thanking players for their support and saying the team
“poured our hearts and souls into that remake”
because they are fans of the original game as well.
Despite the controversy surrounding microtransactions, many players continue to praise Black Flag Resynced for preserving the original’s naval combat, exploration, and pirate adventure while bringing it to modern hardware. Whether Ubisoft’s explanation changes public opinion remains to be seen, but the publisher has indicated it will continue monitoring player feedback after launch.
