Two men face charges of murder after a series of shootings resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a minor, in southeast Los Angeles County. The incidents occurred overnight Sunday into Monday and are believed to constitute a “random murder spree,” according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Andrew Meyer.
The suspects, Gary Garcia, 42, and Timberland Wayne McKneely, 20, were charged with four counts of murder and two counts of attempted willful, deliberate, premeditated murder. Additionally, they face special circumstance allegations related to multiple murders and shootings from a motor vehicle causing death.
District Attorney Gascón expressed condolences to the victims’ families and emphasized the commitment to bringing justice to those affected. The suspects, identified as potentially affiliated with a gang, are currently held on unspecified felony charges.
One victim, Kevin Parada, 24, and a 14-year-old, Javier Pedraza Jr., have been identified. Another teenager was injured but is in stable condition. Law enforcement connected the shootings through surveillance footage and the identification of a Honda Pilot seen at each crime scene.
The apprehension of one suspect followed a traffic stop initiated by a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputy. The shootings have deeply affected the community, with local officials emphasizing the need for accountability and support for grieving families.
